Campground on the San Juan River

Has anyone on here stayed in a large Class A rig at the Cottonwoods Campground on the San Juan River, which is near the Navajo Dam in New Mexico?

If so, what is the condition of County Road 4280 that leads into it?

Thanks in advance for any information! -Paul

Thanks for the reply! The road looked fine on Google earth, but aerial views can be deceiving.

We fished the river 2 years ago, but did not know about Cottonwoods at the time and stayed at a private campground in Bloomfield.

It seemed otherworldly to have such fantastic trout fishing in the middle of high desert. I got used to it fast! Very cool to have fish measured in pounds rising to my size 26 RS2's in crystal clear 50 degree water!

Thanks again! Safe travels and tight lines to you! -Paul

Guides are a valuable and fun resource, but I get a kick out of doing it myself. Never seen anything like this river! Had fish like these swimming around my feet all day! MANY more within easy casting distance.

Cracked the code with a home made 14' leader tapering to 7x and midge patterns down to size 28, but the RS2 in 26 with a dull pink body and CDC wing got the most action over the 3 days of fishing. That was in early October of 2018. Will be going back in that same general time frame this year.
Can't wait! -Paul
