Campground recommendations

I will be traveling from Los Angeles to Giant Redwoods RV Park in Myers Flats Ca.
I would like to break up the drive with an overnight stop either before San Francisco or just outside San Francisco. Are there any campground recommendations that will not take me too far off the path. Looks like I will be taking the I 5 to 580 then merge onto the 101. I am pretty sure I will bypass the Golden Gate bridge.

Thanks,

Click on the red markers and zero in close to where you want to stay:

We've stayed at Santa Rosa Fairgrounds and they accept a few camping cards, including Escapees.

We stayed at the KOA in Petaluma when we did our trip to Ave of the Giants. No issues with the stop. easy on and off 101. Good location to break up the drive.

Check out the Anthony Chabot Regional Park Campground, just off the 580 near Oakland. My daughter lives nearby and I could not believe that there was such a nice place (on Lake Chabot) so close to the city. Haven't stayed there yet but we plan to in November. Not sure how COVID has affected availability, but the Bay Area now seems to be opening up again.

They only have 12 full hook-up sites, so availability might be an issue there. Not sure how many sites there are for RVs with partial hook ups.

Further to my previous post about Anthony Chabot Regional Park, I just visited it yesterday. It's a slow, twisty ten-mile drive from the 580 to get to the campground. Might be a bit more than some big rigs might want to tackle, but the road is paved and in good shape. It's a really nice park with lots of hiking and biking trails. Only three or four of the full hook up sites were taken, though many had reserved signs on them for the 4th holiday weekend. The campground overlooks a very nice lake, with another reservoir nearby as well.

Still hard to believe that this gem is so close to the city. My daughter has lived in SFO for 20 years and didn't know about it until I found it online and mentioned it to her. Now that she lives in Oakland she walks her dog there frequently.

You can also come in from the south near Castro Valley. Looks on the map to be a bit shorter that way, but I can't vouch for the road (Redwood Drive) as I've never been on it south of the campground.
