Campground suggestions for New England trip this fall

I realize this is a very broad question...but asking for your favorite RV park suggestions for these specific areas. Traveling from So. California to New England in a 38 ft 5th wheel for about 6-8 weeks this fall. Seeing alot of the popular sites....Niagara Falls, Cooperstown, Portland MN area, Boston, Cape Cod, NYC, Gettysburg, DC, Williamsburg...to name a few. Know of some...like Cherry Hill in DC area...just needing suggestions for those that should not be missed, etc! Timing is very flexible...

Any plans to visit Vermont? If so you might want to check out North Beach Campground in Burlington, Vt. With it only being a mile away from downtown burlington and on Lake Champlain there is a couple of days worth to see and do. The first week of October is when we have visited and the fall foliage looks great.

They also have some great eateries, coffee shops and a farmers market.

Let us know if you want any more information.

Have a great trip.

Re: Cooperstown NY .. There are several in the area that are fine One that we have used several times is Hartwick Highlands Campground - Newest & Closest Campground to Cooperstown & Dreams Park
Comfortable and average priced for the area . Cooperstown makes a nice stop

I'll 2nd VT...Not far from Burlington on the way to NH. you have to stop at the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory tours in Stowe VT. Up a mile or two from the Ben & Jerry's is a campground called Gold Brook ( $28 to $42 a night) which has a the nicest grass you can find for a CG. They have a nice pool but no planned activities. It makes for a good base camp for the Stowe resort area.

Between the Stowe ski area and the town of Stowe there is a really nice 5 mile paved bike path that includes 10 bridges. Bike path pic

Gold Brook CG pic

At the Stowe Ski Area there is a paved road called the "Toll Road" (ski trail in winter) that takes you almost to the top of the mountain. From there it is about a 1.2 mile hike to the summit, which is the highest point in VT. pic from the summit

If you looking for more action, in the middle of the state Lake Dummore Kamperville ($41 - $47 a night ) is one of the larger CG's in VT. with bingo just about every night, teen dances on the weekends and so on... Kamperville pics

Thanks for all the suggestions! Yes, we do plan on going to Vermont and New Hampshire also. Will probably head east from Niagara Falls towards Cooperstown, then into Vermont. Will look into all your suggestions..thanks!

If you haven't seen the leaves change in the fall, you should see it, in person at least once. Western Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Western Maine are best.

It does require some cold weather to "peak" but it is gorgeous, usually late October. Search on line will show many sites with maps showing the when and where of the peak colors.

New England

If you are into football, Normandy Farms Campground is in Foxboro, Mass, and is about 1 mile from the Pat's stadium. It's one of the highest rated campgrounds in Massachusetts.

But Eastern Mass isn't very RV friendly, unfortunately - that said, the Cape in the fall can be beautiful, and not crowded, but campgrounds close usually right around Columbus day weekend. (all up and down the coast Maine to RI).

I'd recommend Cape Cod Camp Resort (I think it's in Falmouth). Also stayed at Atlantic Oaks, which is about 20 min. from P-Town at the very end of the cape. And on the bike path. Again, check closing dates. And bring heater and warm jackets!

In Gettysburg, we just stayed at Artillery Ridge, and were very happy with that. Artillery Ridge has horseback riding, and is very close to the military visitor center. Bike path nearby also.

Cherry Hill is the campground for Washington.

If you are going through NY, we have stayed at the KOA in Herkimer, NY, and experienced Herkimer Diamond mining, before heading up to Lake George, NY which is also a great place to visit. I recommend Lake George RV Park also, like someone else did. I think there's a bike path connected to it.

NH - I've heard that Coldsprings is a nice resort, but haven't been there. There is also an adult only campground near Coldsprings, i've been told.

Maine - Bailey's has been raved about - haven't been there. It's on the ocean. Point Sebago is nice, on lake. Both are family friendly campgrounds.

Rhode Island -Fishermans State Park is close to the ferry to Block Island, which is a nice place to go.

Hope you have fun planning the trip! I've always wanted to go cross country - but from Massachusetts west!
