We stayed in one of the SP loops a few of years ago. I don't remember which one, but, as I recall, they were all pretty nice. Not fancy, but comfortable amongst the rocks. We did not get a chance to explore the park because I wasn't feeling well but I definitely would like to go back.
One of our favorite campgrounds. If you are looking for hook ups, Atlatl loop especially the lower row you see just as you enter the loop. If not, there are some spectacular sites on the upper loop, but size is a consideration up there.
Just before Valley of Fire SP is BLM land. At the crest of a hill is a turn off on the right, with a Fire ring!
We stayed there for the evening (good TV & phone) then went into Valley of Fire in the morning. Dry camping but free and convenient.
Valley of Fire is SPECTACULAR!....especially at sunset.
