Campground/Visit Recommendations

Ok, guys. We're making our first big trip in May - going to PA for some family business & visiting. We're planning on coming back to Oregon via the northern route thru Wisconsin, South Dakota, Montana, & Washington. Anyone have any must-see places or campgrounds? The visit will be a bit intense, so we're looking to relax & dawdle on the way home. Thanks for any help.

Recommend Hart Ranch near Rapid City, SD near Rushmore & Crazy Horse.
7th Ranch RV Park, MT next to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.

Auto museum in Mitchell, SD is a must stop. There is an amazing collection of wheels there and was interesting to me who is not much of a car enthusiast. They even have a couple of early motorhomes. The Badlands NP is a drive through park with a nice Visitor's Center but is a very interesting drive. There is a missile launch site near it which we've not seen but hear it's well worth the time.

If you can swing to the SW corner of ND, Theodore Roosevelt NP is a great place. No hook ups in the park but some really nice sites. I think there is a least one full hook up CG near town.

Montana? Geesh...throw a dart! It is a beautiful state and supposed to have great fly fishing...can't tell by what my DH caught though. We found a nice CG near Big Timber, Spring Creek Campground &Trout Ranch, which has trout ponds and is right on the Boulder River. Beautiful!

Bozeman has Museum of the Rockies & a neat downtown area. Glacier is in MT & Flathead Lake which depending on when you go, has to die for cherries and cherry wine!

Those are a few of the highlights from our trip. There is so much more to see though.

Avoid Chicago area, and the toll roads. Either go up, over lake Michigan, or down and around, then up thru Wisconsin. The Dells is nice, but expensive, but Devils lake state park is worth it. Minnesota has some "little house on prairie" in De smet, then the Corn palace, Wall drug, Badlands, Black hills, Yellowstone, up to Glacier, and back to Oregon.

Hi Filmshooter,
In addition to all the usual places to stop, along I-90 in SD is the Minute Man NHS. Go to Minuteman Missile National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) and take a look. Reservations are required.

Campground recommendations please

Does anyone know of any overnight decent campground off of Rt. #84 north in CT? We're heading back to ME from FL, going as far as PA tonight, but we're having trouble finding a campground open and close to route #84.
Some of the roads we've traveled thus far have been so bad & rough, kills me driving our brand new '15 Entegra on them, but hopefully these coaches are made to withstand the road abuse!
Again, any campground recommendations will be much appreciated!

Here is one northeast of Hartford area. Looks close to 84 and open:
