Campgrounds in New York/New Jersey area

Trying to figure and good campground to tour New York with out all the traffic hassel - if that is possible. Had some friends stay ar Liberty Harbor Marina and RV park located on the Hudson Rover in Jersey CIty. Anybody stayed there?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Stay at the Turning Stone Resort · Casino is very nice, with little traffic, easy access to major highways and pretty much dead center of New York

You can take a bus into the city from the Newburgh KOA. Easy to get to from I87.

I've spent 4 nights in early november of 07 at the Liberty Harbor. This campground is similar to a parking lot with water and electric and also a dump station. Since most folks visiting are only there during the evening and the night it's quite ok. We found it to be quiet, clean and near public transportation. During the week you have access after a couple of hundred feet walk, to a ferry. A 10 minute walk will bring you to a subway station, and we found it was a safe walk. Prices were $60/night. During the summer there is a night club close by and they play loud music during the weekend nights, which might disturb some of the campers. On a future trip to NYC I would stay there again.

I stayed at Liberty Harbor for a week in 2001 ... it met or exceeded my expectations ... I felt safe ... and it was convenient ...

We also liked the Newburgh KOA. Left the truck in the campground and let the bus driver do all the work. We had a very enjoyable tour and didn't feel rushed at all. There is also a train station with NYC access near the campground but we didn't use it.

We also stayed at the newburgh/new york north koa and took a bus tour into the city. The tour was very good and not rushed. Sure beats trying to drive and park in nyc.

We just got back from NY and also stayed at Liberty Harbor, still $60 per night, and the club had a fire a few week ago and is closed for the season if not longer, so no loud music this year, we stayed 2 week nights so the park was only 2/3 full.
