Campgrounds in the Charleston, SC area
Hello,
Looking for suggestions on campgrounds in the Charleston area. Coming from Myrtle Beach, around the end of June. Is there anything on the ocean? Preferably someplace with a pool (grandkids may be visiting). Appreciate your help. Thank you.

Based on recommendations on this forum and from RVPARKREVIEWS, I’m staying at James Island County Park Campground in two weeks. Can report after that if it’s all that it is reported to be. https://www.ccprc.com/1434/Campground

We are not EVEN fans of KOA, but the KOA in Mt Pleasant is a great place for a visit. We stated on a site facing the lake. Very nice staff and facilities.
We have also stayed at James Island County park. It is fine, but so far from the downtown area of Charleston you are tired by the time you get there. Getting to James Island is a bit scary due to the low limbs on the city streets. The county may have trimmed them now, as it was a few years ago when we had a mini-rally with friends there.

Doc, Mount Pleasant KOA is a longer drive to downtown Charleston than James Island county park.

According to Google Maps, 18 min to Charleston center historic district from James Island County Park and 23 min from the KOA.

Second the vote for James Island. Stayed there last summer for 5 days and wished we could have stayed for 5 more.

Not trying to high-jack the thread, but we have 1st time reservations at James River in May. You folks who have been there, any pointers as far as getting to and from southbound I-95 to the campground? Areas, streets to avoid. Pulling a fairly large TT, pushing 40'. Thanks for any tips!

We like the Mt Pleasant KOA on 17, north of town. Easy enough to get to with any size rig. Close enough to Charleston. And the entry has a back way into the Walmart.
Regards.

I stayed at James Island County Park Campground in December. I enjoyed my stay there. Great walking trails. Lots to do for kids. The only thing that I didn't like were all the beautiful low hanging trees as far as navigating around them. In the event trees are an issue, I understand Oak Plantation RV Resort has no trees, but can neither confirm or deny that information. Safe travels.

hmmm. Maybe I have been taking the long route. If you get to Mt Pleasant, try Shem Creek area for great seafood. Red's Ice House and Shem Creek Inn are just a couple that come to mind
