We'll be heading to Boston next year September and really need help in finding a campground less than a 100 miles out. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best bet is Boston Minuteman in Littleton. Easy access to public transportation and the folks in the office are great with information about the area. Easier access to the city if you choose to drive a toad to tow vehicle. However, parking is very costly and traffic is pretty bad. MBTA is the best bet.

x2 We go there a few times a year. It's a bit pricey but worth it.

X3 Normandy Farms. Can get the train in Quincy and in about a half hour your in Boston. I highly recommend Normandy Farms, can't say enough good things about the place.

I'm thinking of trying Gateway in Rochester. It is a PA campground and that area seems central to the city, the Cape, and the Newport area. We are only going to be there a few days and are simply looking for a place to park and sleep, so dont need all the amenities the more expensive places offer.
I'll let you know how it is.
