Campgrounds Near Indianapolis IN

We are going on a short trip in a few weeks to Indianapolis IN. Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to camp near there? Thanks for any advice.

We stayed at Crawfordsville IN - about 40 miles west on I 74 - Sugar Creek Campground, really nice, quiet, large level sites. We just stayed overnight in the MH but would stay again.

Try the Indiana State Fairgrounds. They are back-in sites with full hook-ups. If memory serves, they're $30/night.

Arguably, the best campground near Indy is White River in Cicero. Old Mill Run, Thorntown, is also, IMO, quite good. Sugar Creek is OK. The KOA in Greenfield will do if you want to be on that side of town - not really my favorite, but ok for short stay. Indy fairgrounds is alright, but we are not comfortable overnight in that part of town - others feel differently. Have a pleasant stay in Indianapolis.

We are staying at Indy Lakes. We have been here for quite some time. It certainly isn't the most pleasing to the eye and they do hold fishing contests on weekends but it is close to central and southern Indianapolis. Just off I-465 and 37 on the way to Bloomington. Lake haven is another just up the road from us, but, I have heard management doesn't compare. The owner here is great!

Reserved spot at White River

Thanks for all the replies. We booked a spot at White River. Looks like a nice campground. Again thanks for the replies.
