We camped in a nice campground in the park, its the North unit-can't recall the name. Plenty of space; Don't recall if there are hookups or not. Watch out for the wind!. You are right in the middle of the Bakken oil field, I don't remember any RV parks other than the ones catering to the oilfield workers.

We have heard the pipeline was shut down and most of the workers are gone. Yes, we know the wind is brutal.

While you are in the park (North Unit) be sure to take the toad and drive to the 'end of the road' thru the tall grass prairie-imagine its 1901...

We stayed at Red Trail Camp - Madora, fairly close to the park. That was in 2011 and we had solid rain from AL until we left Fairbanks, AK. Red Trail had it's share of rain, matter of fact, they had a mud slide that came into one section of the campground...luckily, not ours.
The day we went into the NP, we had some sunshine and saw a lot of wild horses. Not much to do but I could see why the area had captured Roosevelt's interest.
Nice quite stay for the road weary.

Here's the official park web site which includes things to do, road information and camping. We like to stay IN the national parks.

There isn't a lot to choose from in the area. Medora, ND is the closest town and they offer the biggest RV Park with the most amenities. You won't have to worry about any oil workers. Medora is too far southwest and most of them are gone anyway.

We stayed at Red Trail RV Park for several days during August 2014. Some of the sites closer to the front of the park can get muddy since you're on grass/dirt. We stayed in the back of the park in a site (believe it was B) that was gravel. No complaints.
