Camping near Glacier National Park

Hi,

Wondering the best place to camp in our motorhome by Glacier National Park. I think we would be on the east side, coming from Banff National Park. Don't want to be on mountain roads to get to campsite. Thanks.

We stayed at Glacier Meadow Campground on the way to Alaska. We found it very suitable for us. The site was a pull in, flat, picnic table on nice grass, water and electric. Click image for larger version

The facilities were spotless tho a bit small. We tow a Jeep so spent three days exploring the area.

This is a no frills campground. If wifi and email are important to you, this may not be the place. It’s very slow from the reviews I have read. There’s no swimming pool or restaurant or any other “extras”. It’s a clean, scenic place to park for a rest or touring.

If you're coming in from the east side from Canada (thru Warrenton I presume) your options are a bit limited. At the north end near the St Mary entrance and inside the park is Many Glaciers. It's great but the road getting to it is brutal; not hilly, but full of potholes. Tough to get into as well, but this time of year is probably ok. Just outside the St Mary gate is a KOA that seems fairly nice. Further south by the East entrance and inside the park is Two Medicine. It's great, but more rustic. Even further south is Glacier Meadows. Looks nice, but does not appear to be near any of the entrances.

Hi tonka96,
Consider the KOA at St. Mary. Nice park, great views of the mountains. Near the park entrance. There is a native American presentation at the ranger station once a week. Check with the ranger to see when. St. Mary has a small grocery and tourist treasure shops. Lots of good local restaurants. Most all the trail heads are near by.
