3 years ago we stayed near Galveston TX along the gulf coast. Big mistake. I'm still paying for that trip. Just 2 weeks in varying locations. Never directly on the beach.
I have Chrome pitting and getting worse. Any exposed bare metal is rusting bad. Repainting as I find more.
All 3 A/C fans got very noisy. Bearings got salt in them. Have had to replace all 3 motors. $350.

The house I have in CT is a block in from the ocean. My mom lives there now and up until the new rig, I stored my RV in her barn during the winter. Sometimes the air is so thick you can taste the salt. I have never noticed any exacerbated degradation caused by the salt air or ocean mist on the RV’s or any vehicles. Even the house being that close to the water hasn’t had any issues caused by the salt.

The only thing that destroys stuff up here is the crap they put on the roads to melt the snow and ice. The brine solution and salt destroy everything.

Hmmmm, we've been going to Henderson SP in Destin, FL every year for the past 14 years.
Same rig, except for this past August in our new 5ver, no issues.

How close to the water were you?

Camp sites at Henderson SP are about 300 yds from the water.

I live less than 100yds from the ocean, not a protected bay or harbour, open ocean.

Salt in the air is a huge issue. Everything metal ages at a rapid rate. Cars are much better these days but used to have serious rusting in five years. Cheaply chromed parts pit in no time at all without regular maintenance.

RVs are not built with the marine environment in mind when it comes to fasteners & other materials that go into them. It is not so much the parts that you can easily see, it is the areas that you cannot see.

When we stayed at Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, Alabama we noticed pitting, rust in no time on our bikes, etc. even though we hosed them off daily.

Same experience with me. Only pitting I see is on the chrome supports that hold the Newmar grab bar at the door. We are directly on salt water ( 50 ft from back of house ) and we travel and stay mostly at ocean front camp sites for 6-7 months of the year. Currently at Bluewater Key near Key West.

Spent 3 months in Port O'Connor and it is salt on 3 side of it. Never again will we take the RV that close to salt air.

We have a Yacht floating in Long Beach and everything is affected, we keep electric bikes inside while we are not there and they get aged

Had the same thing happen at Pacifica CA. Salt laden fog rolled in every day. Salt was so thick on car windshield that had to wash it before driving just to see out. Never again.

I’ve been camping for 13 years at Myrtle beach 100 ft from ocean with no problems with rust. I do keep it cleaned.

I got the 2nd site from the ocean for July 22. I'm going to give the chrome bits a good wax a couple days before the trip and hope for the best.

We live on Cape Cod where it is about 1 1/2 miles wide (Cape Cod Bay to the West and the Atlantic to the East). The coach stays there uncovered and it also spends a month at Pacific Shores overlooking the Pacific in Newport, OR. The exhaust pipes get rusty but that's about it. Same with the '10 Journey and the '05 Suncruiser before this one.

We spent a week at the Outer Banks on Hatteras Island in September, a week at Mayport Naval Station a week later. So far no issues with the salt air. Now our plans are currently in Central Florida for another 3 weeks then going to Sunshine Keys in Key West for 2 weeks for Thanksgiving. We will spend Christmas week at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores then New Years week in Galveston Island. So hoping we will not have any issues in our rig.

We spent two weeks in Freeport in 2020 and 2021. Blue Water RV Park maybe a mile at most from the ocean. I was warned but went anyway AND will continue every year- we fell in love with the area. I've seen zero traces of any salt water impact on coach but I understand it's still early- first visit was less than 2 years ago. Regardless, we've been warned and still intend to return even with the consequences.
