Planning on heading down to the Charleston area in Sept. Does anyone have any recommedations for RV parks in the general area. The closer we could get to Folly Beach the better.

James Island County Park. I have stayed there several times and it is a nice park , clean nice sites, friendly people. There is shuttle service into Charleston, and miles of bike paths. There is also a water park, extra charge, I'm sure. While there you must eat at the Anchor Line resturant, anyone there can give directions. It doesn't look like much, but the best seafood I've had. HTH, later, Nat

I second James Island County Park. Close to the city (across the river) and a very nice park with reasonalble prices.

We're staying at James Island County Park August 12-14. My brother has stayed there many times and loves it.

All these suggestion for James Island County park are correct. It IS a decent place to stay, and is nearest to downtown. However, having stayed there several times, I can tell you it is a little too crowded and many sites are nearly too wooded for large RVs. The best alternative I've found is a privately owned CG on Hwy 17 South called OAK PLANTATION. It is large and has many pull thru sites. Another choice would be Lake Aire RV Park, not too much further south, listed as being in Hollywood, SC.

We had a chat rally at Oak Plantation, not far out of town and big rig friendly. We want to check out James Island the next time we are down that way.

Another good CG is Mt Pleasant KOA. Just across the new Cooper River bridge from Charleston.

We have been to James Island the last 5 years. That is where we take our grandsons for their annual 2 week camping trip with us. If you opt. for there, make sure you have reservations. They have great bike trails! Your camping pass will get you into the Folly Beach Pier and Beach.
