Looks like a lot fewer RV sites but looks like it will be nice.

We've stayed at the KOA in Chula Vista several times, and its been enjoyable. Love the weather there particularly in the Winter.

Chula Vista currently has 237 RV sites. The new park will have 139 RV spaces and 116 park models spaces. That's quite a reduction of RV spaces. Sounds like it will be difficult to get a space at the new place.

I don’t get that decision at all. Probably made by someone without any knowledge of the RV world.

Actually it will be closing on Feb 1st. I got an email from Andrea yesterday. She's the Manager. I've known her for 10 years and she more than likely will be retiring. Great park, great location. I had a boat in the marina for 5 years and I know all the staff. It was my home away from home. It will hurt the Galley at the Marina. I'm close friends with Fran the owner. But her lease is up in a year and a half so it will be gone too. The Port district is turning the area into a carbon copy of downtown/Harbor Island. Sad to see it change. The Galley is my "Cheers" bar. It will be a while before the new Park is built and it won't be the same. Sometimes progress sucks.

Sad indeed! We enjoyed the music at the Galley, especially on Wednesday with Gary Sieler. Lots of locals there who will definitely miss this gathering place.

That's too bad. That is a nice looking park but reality is that park is probably the nicest thing about all of Chula Vista.

There are some nice areas of Chula Vista and a few not so nice. Overall we’ve enjoyed our stays there so are very sad to see this closure especially after the park closure in Imperial Beach.

I was born in Chula Vista, spent my teen years in Imperial Beach. After the I.B. park closed we stayed at the C.V. park. Sad to see them both go. We enjoyed spending winters in the area, but since were now homebased in South Carolina we'll spend our winters on the right coast.

Lets set the record straight. First off, the Chula Vista RV Resort and the Chula Vista Marina is owned by Sterling and Active Care Living corporations. "Not the city of Chula Vista.
Everything above ground is owned by the above corp's and the land is owned by the San Diego Port Authority.
The Chula Vista Redevelopment will include a hotel, convention center, strip mall, high rise condo's etc.

This redevelopment has been in the works for many, many years and has now come to fruition.

Management at the RV park was under the impression that they would stay at least until the end of 2019 and possibly into 2020, hence taking reservations for those times and dates.

On Sept. 20th 2018 the Port Authority informed Management that they had to be out on March 1 st 2019. (The Marina isn't affected by the redevelopment and will continue operation. The RV park will effectively close as of Feb. 1st. 2019 leaving the month of February to vacate the facility.

Now comes the slap in the face. The Port Authority is working on a deal with Sun Communities Inc. to take over the Chula Vista RV Resort until their new park is opened or at least partially constructed. The new park will be built on land north of the Wildlife refuge on E St. The current RV park will eventually be part of the proposed Hotel and Convention center.

For years, I've been going to CV RV Park and for the last 10 years I've spent July, Aug and Sept. at the resort. During Summer, I work on as add needed basis doing Security work as well as repairing their rental bicycles and security bicycles.

Interesting info, the Port Authority does not as yet have a lease signed by Sun Communities Inc for the new park as well as taking over the existing RV park. They do say that they are "close"

Sun Communities has indicated that they will build a RV park that will contain approx. 165 permanent "Park Model" trailers for rent and only about 130 RV sites.
Currently, Chula Vista RV park has 237 RV sites and during Summer, all are occupied.

It appears that the park surrounding CVRV is not going away. Spoke to a Port employee working at the city park this morning and he believes the city park will not be affected but may be modified. The city park grass is not being mowed on the south side between CVRV and the marina.

Yesterday a drilling crew drilled and capped a hole in the city park near the south pedestrian gate of CVRV. Lots of dirt being moved in the vacant lots that used to store cars. Dirt level up over 5 feet.

Here's some drone shots I took a few days ago. It was a foggy day.

Enjoyed the place a bunch and heading down next month (just in time for Del Frisco’s steakhouse opening in San Diego). Any thoughts on the next nicest RV resort in the area?

You were parked in front of us. I remember you. We have the Voltage and white dually. We're in 221. We're here another week.

Talked to one gal who, rumor has it, says the new owners may take over and keep the park open through 2019. Just a rumor.
