Colorado Forest Closes

Yes it's finally happened, due to the severe drought in our wonderful state the forest service was forced to close the San Juan National Forest in the southwest part of the state. So far this is the only one but rumor on the street says if we don't get some rain this week there will likely be more.

Anyone planning a trip to the mountains please check with the National Forest Service for closers and burn restrictions.

Spending summer at Creede. Days generally smoke free but frequent evening windshifts bring smoke from 416 fire. VERY dry everywhere. Burro fire started near the 416 wildfire making things much worse. Does not look good. Fingers crossed but keeping rig ready to roll.

We've had smoke drifting our way about 25 miles east of Colorado Springs. According to local weather we may have a good chance of rain next week. The Security, Widefield and Fountain area had a very bad hailstorm early this morning, a lot of damage.

That is a shame. I just hope the fires are in the beetle damaged areas.

Fellow Colorado resident chiming in. I also help mod the largest FB groups for Camping/hiking/backpacking in Colorado and we are seeing tons of reports of the fires. Here is a very useful link. Call the Sheriffs office for the county you will be in.
