Colorado Springs

Does anyone have any recommendations for campgrounds in the immediate Colorado Springs area? We're in a 40' MH, 3 slides and a toad.
Thanks

Hossandjo:

Hi. We've stayed at Garden of the Gods RV Park right in Manitou Springs (suburb community right on Western part of Colo. Springs) and found it to be a great location. Manitou Springs, right at the foot of Pikes Peak, is a wonderful place and access to everything in and around Colorado Springs was easy. We had no trouble getting to and into this park with our 45 ft. motorhome towing our car.

Hossandjo,
I don't know if you are the type that likes to be in the mountains and forests but here is a site my wife and I fell in love with. It is Mueller State Park.[URL="http://www.parks.state.co.us/Parks/Mueller/Pages/MuellerHome.aspx"]
It is located 25 miles away from Colorado Springs but it is absolutely beautiful with lots of hiking trails.

Also check out Cheyenne Mountain State Park which is just about 5-10 minutes south of town on HWY 115. Golden Eagle Campground and Mountin Dale Campgroung are a little further south. Meadows Campground in Falcon about 15 minutes east of town on HWY 24. There is also a KOA south of town off of I 25. Being local to the area we stay away from the campgrounds in the more populated areas so I can't offer advice on those. By any chance are you a ROD member?

All the above are great, but we truly love Cheyenne Mt State park for Colorado Springs. It is one of the best RV designed SPs (newest in the State and specifically designed for RVs) I have ever stayed at. Go to their web page and look at the pictures. You will not find a nicer or prettier place to stay in the Springs.

Mueller is great for the outback higher mountain experience. Many of the sites in Mueller will not accomodate your rig so you will just have to check and see. Mueller is a good 45 minutes from the Springs, but trully a beautiful park to camp and hike in. It is also very large and has lots of spaces.

If you have the time, start with Cheyenne Mt. and then visit Mueller on a day trip.

We stayed at Garden of the Gods once. It's an older RV campground, well maintained, but the sites are really close together for rigs with slides (think inches between your extended slide and your neighbors). Also, the site we were assigned was sloped so our leveling system was at its limits to get us level and our entry step ended up being really high off the ground - uncomfortably so even with the auxillary step we use.

I thought it was over priced for what was actually delivered.
