Colorado Springs information, please.

We have a month scheduled in Colorado Springs in September, and we are getting concerned about the forest fire situation that they have going on right now. It is hard to get good information from that area. Has anyone been through there in the last few days? We are booked at the Garden of the Gods campground and we want to be sure, if we can, what we are getting in to. Thanks in advance for any info.

The Black Forest fire is 100% contained. It is east of your camp ground and you wil be fine on your visit.Lots to do and see there-have a good time and enjoy.

My dear cousin was in Cripple Creek last weekend and the fires from the South Fork area are creating lots of smoke that is drifting to that area. Your park is down the pass from Cripple Creek, but I can't imagine that all those fires wouldn't be contained by September.....

We are headed up there end of July…you should be OK unless another fire breaks out close by, once we get up there I will give you some feedback on the conditions….

We stayed at Garden of the Gods twice in the last 3 weeks during the fires and had no issue other than abnormal smoke/haze. Since we were going north and south we didn't have travel issues, west would be another story.

Obviously some mountain areas/activities are closed but there enough options available to keep entertained. A lot more will be open by September but it will take years for some to return.

You will be fine. The Garden is a long ways from Black Forest. Enjoy the time you are there. The location of that park is pretty nice. Just while out exploring if in Manitou area and a down pour rain happens you may want to head back to camp. The burn from 2012 has not regrown much vegetation so it is a bit of a gully washer.

We love Rainbow Falls OHV you can camp and ride (Dry Camping), Rampart Range Road and Rampart Lake, but it's closed at Colorado Springs, you'll have to go up to Woodland Park and go in FR300 (Rampart Range Rd)...
