Columbia River to CA

Hi,

In August, will be heading up the Oregon Coast in our 32 Ft. Fifth Wheel, and then going across to the Columbia River Gorge ( Stevenson, WA) for a few days. On the drive home, we will want to drive south on I-5, but cannot do it in a day, as we live in Central CA. Does anyone have suggestions for a nice RV stop over at a half-way point. We were thinking somewhere around the Rogue River would be really nice... and we might just stay there a couple days if it's really nice....

Thanks,

Judy

7 feather rv park in canyonville is the only 10 rated park on 1-5 in oregon.
it is part of the 7 feather indian casino complex.

The Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks ( & the Hood River bridge ) is a narrow scary bugger with a RV. might think about running sr14 from Vancouver/Camas in WA. to Stevenson, then stay on 14 all the way to Dallesport and cross the river @ The Dalles Dam.then I-84 back to PDX

Columbia River Bridges

We drove over both of the bridges last month in a car, and I thought that they seemed rather small for all of the trucks that were along those highways! Good advice, thanks. I am still not sure of our itinerary...

Has anyone taken 84 in a fifth wheel all the way to Eastern Oregon?

If we were to take 84 across and want to drive down 97 to go home, where would you recommend crossing over?

Not sure I understand , ? talking 84 is on the oregon side ... if in Stevenson (wa side) wa14 then cross to oregon in Biggs hwy 197 and follow it to 97 in madras or further out 84 or wa 14 to 97 (also a good crossing of the Columbia) and south from there .. of course your not on I5 but 97 in central Oregon heading south. I recommend 97 .. much more scenic that I5!!
Might I suggest a better route would be reverse of your plans and head south on 101 home as 101 on the oregon coast is much better to go south not north as pullouts and views are all on the right side going south .. you don't have to cross 101 traffic. Much less stressful.. that said 101 is a great 2lane.

Bridge of the Gods is no problem at all. I have used it many times and I have a wide body. HOWEVER, the bridge at Hood River, OR, between hwy 14 and I-84 is EXTREMELY narrow. Avoid if possible. The bridge at The Dalles is also fine for any RV.

You can't beat Valley of The Rogue State Park if that is the area you want to spend the night. Wonderful park right off the Freeway. If you stay more than just the night there are many great sight seeing places within a days ride including the Rogue River, Crater Lake NP, and Medford or Grants Pass for shopping.
