Cooler Location for Summer?

As we are going through another hot summer I am looking for somewhere to head North for cooler temperatures. We would most like stay 2 or 3 months up there. I know of several friends that head to Michigan, but this year it was hot up there also. Somewhere away from the big cities, but close enough for shopping would be a huge plus. We have not done this before due to my wife's BCBSAL insurance. She goes on Medicare next July, so we would not have that issue anymore. Also somewhere that has decent monthly rates would be a plus.

Last year we wondered the north west in the high country. Used the heater much more than the A/C. This year we are getting a late start. Today we are heading for places along the north end of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. We typically only stay about two weeks in one location.

Original plan was to go to Maine but Covid-19 issues caused us to change our plans.

For the last 10 yrs, we spend the summers in Maine. Usually 50/60's in the mornings and 70's day.... of course you get variations. last week, it never got above 60 for a couple days and the last 2 days it's been about 85 .

Thanks for the suggestion, but I would have to exclude the NE (to many cities and to much traffic) and the NW (obvious reasons).

Really Simple -Get to the Rockies - Get to an elevation that is Cool - say 8,000 feet.

We dispersed Camped at 8,800 feet in Colorado and needed Down Blankets at night! High during the Day say 75-76 low in the 40's at night. Best week we had.

If you need warmer or cooler just adjust your elevation, sure makes it easy.

One other note - the next week we were in Delta - at 4,800' and the temps were in the 90's- 99 during the day, but with 3-5% humidity it was comfortable in the shade, during the day and at night it would get into the Low 60's and once again the Down Blankets came out.

So to answer the question - Simple - get the heck out of the South and Get to Colorado, it's really pretty Nice Here.

Last, it's even great in the Winter - Yes I love it when ever we are Here!

Enjoying Colorado, before we run back to the coast to return for the Aspen - Heaven.

So Ray, Just get in that Coach and head out - you don't need reservations - just might require you to search out the locations or Dry Camp a bit, with the cost of Diesel fuel now, the dry camping with the Generator is really not bad at all. (we have put over 300 hours on the coach Generator in the last 40 days)

Side note on Covid - in Delta County they had 92 cases and one death - We are in Rangely, CO (Moffat County) now where they have had 21 cases and one death. so it is almost non existent in many locations, so it takes the worry out. Added Bonus is if you leave now you can stay till the Aspen Change - IMHO that's a Bucket List Item that never gets Old.

BEST OF LUCK,

Reason for avoiding the NW ?
All you have seen on the news is 2 DOWNTOWN citys.
I live 30 miles from Seattle, no problems.
WA,OR, ID are BEAUTIFUL states.
Yesterday, we took a 5 hour drive in & around Mt Rainer National Park. Lived here 55 years & still can't stop takeing pictures of it.

Busskipper - can you recommend any RV resorts/parks that are in the 8,000 feet areas? I know you like to drycamp, but we don't want to do that for 2 or 3 months.

I just Googled 'towns with 8,000' elevation' and this and many other sites came up. It would give you a range of places. We found that 7,000' + can give nice temperatures. Naturally, the higher you go the cooler.

Also, staying along the Pacific coast will be very pleasant. We love the Oregon coast.

Northern Michigan around the Leelanau Peninsula and up to the Mackinac Bridge is very pleasant.

Duluth MN and points North along the shore of Lake Superior. Two Harbors, 25m N of Duluth, has Burlington Bay municipal CG, full HU, cool summer nights, temps and humidity do vary depending on which way the wind blows.

Ouray
Ridgeway
Montrose
Lake City
Rico
Buena Vista

Just search one/all of these - we just left Montrose and while not cold was pleasantly cool.

Also look around Cameron while we\ did not stay we would have if time permitted.

Seriously get in that Bus and head to the Rockies there are thousands of spots - we had three parties in our group and were never left on the highway.

The country is great and there are many great spots to stay..........take a little risk worst that could happen i you stay in a church parking lot one night.

We are actually heading back out again in a few weeks but not to Colorado.
We will be heading to South Dakota for a rally. After that we will head to Gatlinburg in November for three weeks. This will wrap up our trips for this year.

It all depends on Covid-19 and the protesting if we head to Colorado next summer. I am concerned with the protesting more than Covid after what happened in Aurora, CO over the weekend.
