Take the Anacortes ferry to the San Juan Islands for a few days and explore the islands . Absolutely amazing ! Rent kayaks , take a Whale watching tour boat , fishing charters , numerous shops , restaurants with FRESH seafood , waterfront State Parks , bicycle rentals , or just find a grassy waterfront hill and sit back and enjoy the views .

From Anacortes , go East on Rt.20 over the North Cascades Highway .You'll see why it's called the American Alps. On Rt.20 the trip over to Winthrop , an old cowboy town in the Methow Valley will take about 2 hrs. which will allow time for stopping at the overlooks , Diablo Dam , and a snowball fight as late as August .
Yes, good ideas..... and when one is ready to leave the Olympic Peninsula (Port Townsend area) and if wanting to head to northern Washington or across to Idaho or wherever he could put the RV on the Coupeville ferry for a short ride and then visit those places leisurely enroute to the next stop without fighting the Seattle traffic.

That was kinda my thoughts.
I just didn’t know if they would let me on the ferry with my coach and toad.

It's about a 30 min ride from Port Townsend to Coupeville.

You'll need to plan ahead & probably fill out papers and reserve a spot.

Also, you'll have to check the tide charts as you don't want to board at low tide because of the angle of the boarding ramp. We've put our 40' on a ferry & it went smoothly.

Call them when it's closer to your trip time and discuss it.

I could not agree more, the Puget sound and all of the communities it harbors is unbelievable...As a 30 yr resident of the PNW it is a absolute must. Actually it would take almost a 2 weeks of breakneck wandering to take it all in.
