Cross Country Trip

We left Port Orange Florida on April 12 with only the first 2 stops reserved. We didn't have a time line to return home as we didn't know if we would like to stay in an area longer which we did more than not. So far there has been CG's hardly full.

We are now just outside but still in Tuson Arizona CG for a week. Beautiful country.

After todays sightseeing of the Sonora desert and museum once back to our CG i started to secure a few more reservations. Lori got us a week in Vegas and then i thought lets see if i can get a site in the Grand canyon park (trailer Village), boy did i get lucky and got 4 nights 6/5-6/9 with full hook up. I'll have to get a stop between Vegas and the GC for 3 nights to fill in.

Being on the road for a month and winging it at first i was a bit nervous but so far what an awesom adventure.

Not planned but i wanted to see the wall so we got a CG in Douglas Az a few miles from the boarder. A very pleasant boarder agent volunteered to take a few pictures of us. Found a nice local mexican restaurant with awesome food.

I'm thinking this'll be over a 3 month trip.

The campgrounds so far i was able to get using Passport america with full hookups., One CG was a KOA, costly and no sewer.

This is my first looooong trip after 10 years of RVing

Thanks for sharing your adventures! We're all at different places in our RVing experiences. We learn from those ahead of us, and we teach those behind us. Thank you for adding to my vision.

While you're still in AZ, consider a trip from Apache Junction to Tortilla Flat (pop 6) then drive the Apache Trail. It's one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken and well worth the trip. When we did it we overnighted in Globe, AZ then drove the trail and back.

The Apache Trail is mostly closed because of fires and ultimately flood damage. You can drive on the paved section from Lost Dutchman State Park (awesome) to Tortilla Flats.

While in Tucson (or on your way west) check out the Casagrande Ruins

The Boneyard in Tucson is cool too

I think Google has had a nervous breakdown. It keeps trying to link back to a graveyard place that I never asked it to search for, truly weird.

So happy to read this! We prefer winging-it and have done so for two cross country trips. We are thinking of another next year, our 50th anniversary. We like leaving in April and returning home by July 1.

Yesterday we did a day trip to Nogales and went to the ruins as it was on our way. We have seen many awesome places so far and know there is more to come.

Today is a down day as tomorrow its back on the road heading towards
Las Vegas, Circus Circus RV park for 8 days. I made 2 more reservations on the way to Vegas, one a 4 night stay in Bull Head city.

As beautiful as the desert is it will be nice to start heading north and see more green.
The CG we have been at for 7 days (Diamond J, Tuscon) is beautiful. Awesome view from the coach.

One aspect of this trip that has been an adjustment for us is the time zone changes. Arizona doesn't observe daylight saving time so were 3 hrs behind. And the sun is up and strong shortly after 5am. Even Maggie our cocker starts stareing at me for dinner way to early.
