Thanks for all the info on snow and ice. We will be coming into the park around the 23rd or the 24th. Will any parks be open with elec? Hope to be coming in the north side.

Yellowstone was pretty busy today. We were surprised about how busy it still was in the park. They have the sign up saying that all of the lodgings are full. Do not know whether that includes the campgrounds.

We were out all day yesterday and today until 8 pm.
We were at Grand Teton today. Visibility was great, no smoke issues.

The temperatures have not been as low as were predicted.
Maybe they have it online at the park website when the various campgrounds close in the park?

I'm not sure if they post by date/WX/ etc. I should probably look into that. It's always crowded, even more so after the NP birthday year.

Rarely do we see a full state radar in our reports, hope that helped. I didn't post it here as it would quickly become obsolete.

Hope you all are still having fun!

Roads?

How are the roads (slopes, turns, etc. ) on this trip compared to the mountains/roads between Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC. I was surprised about the 20+- miles of twisting and ascent/descent on I-40.

Is the snow helping with the fires and smoke?

On the way you should stop at Wall Drugs store. Can't explain it, you just have to see it. Entering the Black Hills area you will probably go through Rapid City. Just outside RC you will come to Bear Country USA. It is a worthwhile stop. You can park your Rv there and drive your Toad through the area. You will be up close to bears, wolves, foxes, reindeer, moose etc. We always stay at A Hill City Rv park. There are several but staying at Hill City you can drive to just about all the attractions. Good sights are: Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park with the Wildlife tour, Needles Highway, Wind Cave. Although it is a further driv, going to Spearfish Canyon and on to Deadwood is worth it.

I found my old post concerning this trip from last year that I will try to do next May instead of the fall due to the wildfires.

I will need info on what will not be open. I know Glacier NP is out due to the time of the year and cold weather. I am looking at leaving South Alabama around the middle of April and we will do more camping instead of just driving on the way to Sioux Falls. From this point on I will be looking into campgrounds that will serve as points to to the sight seeing.

I am thinking of getting to Grizzly RV Park about the middle of May. Will this be to early? I checked with them and they said reservations for next year will start in October. This is the one I want to reserve early and then build my trip around it. I checked the weather data for May and it did not look to bad. It did get cold some nights and it had some snow that quickly melted.

What other locations will I need to reserve early to get a spot? I am looking to go from Sioux Falls to I-90 and stay on I-90 on into Montana before heading back South to Grizzly RV. I am still planning on the chicken route to avoid Hwys. 14/14A. Will the route into Montana be an issue in May? Also is there anything worth staying extra nights at a campground in Montana. I will be doing one stop along the I-90 route in Montana.

I still want to see Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Custer NP, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Plus whatever suggestions that I am given.

IMHO - I'd start a new Post - get current info and update your info wanted/needed, just would make it easier.

JMHO,

OR - Just head to the West/Rockies and bump around - you do have wheels so go stop enjoy, leave. You would be Amazed at the places you never knew were there, and never planned on spending time, they are everywhere. Sometimes you just need to give Freedom a Chance.

......
