Day parking north of San Francisco

We have a 42 ft. Class A towing a Jeep. We would like to day park the rig north of SF and visit Muir Woods in the Jeep, then move on. I see there is a nice Park and Ride lot in Novato, CA at Rowland Road and Hwy. 101. GPS 38.093297, -122.558257

Is it legal and a reasonable idea to park the rig on one of the ends of that lot for 3 hours on a Sunday in April? Campgrounds are sparse there and we really don't need to overnight on our way north.

From the CalTrans web site: "No loitering, camping, vending, or parking of vehicles 30-feet or longer is permitted at any Park and Ride lot (California Vehicle Code Section 22518)."

You might want to check some RV parks along 101 in Greenbrae. Maybe they could accommodate a half day use. IDK.

There is a KOA about 30 miles north in Petaluma. It would be a pretty easy drive, but do the drive in the morning. Muir Woods along with Hwy 101 along that stretch can be pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon in April.

Also be aware that parking at Muir Woods is limited. You might want to check the web site for some park and shuttle bus options.

I don't mean to be a buzz kill -- Muir Woods is a terrific place to visit. Definitely go for it.

Thanks for the detailed info. We will likely stay an extra day in Nappa and make the drive to Muir on a weekday from there.

There are some very nice San Francisco tours that include Muir Woods. That would be my option if you've never been to San Francisco.

We did one from this company in a small van tour. Awesome! https://www.sanfranshuttletours.com/

We stayed at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds north on 101 with our 40' MH. Then drove to the Larkspur Ferry Landing on the north side of the Bay where we left the car. We boarded the ferry taking us past Alcatraz and disembarked at the Ferry Bldg where the van picked us up for the all-day tour. Did the reverse upon return. Very easy and no parking hassles.

That would be a good plan and a pretty easy day trip. In addition to Muir Woods, you would be able to visit places like Sausalito.
