Wapwallopen, PA.
Sometimes it's a great adventure just hunting for and finding a campground when it's more than just a few miles off your major route. And that's just what happened when we went hunting for Moyer’s Grove CG at Wapwallopen, PA. It was down narrow roads and well secluded in the PA countryside. Our site was a FHU under acorn trees that were dropping their acorns all night. Had the wind been blowing we would not have got much sleep. Not many RV patrons at this CG. It’s occupied mostly by homesteaders and seasonal users. It was clean and well kept but not very friendly. The office store was well stocked.
For those that like to fish, there is a well stocked stream winding through the CG property. The CG office sells bait.
Between the CG and the interstate we found a very friendly country store with reasonable fuel prices, for all grades, including diesel #2.
It was a rewarding adventure to coming this far off a major highway to find a campground. The PA countryside was clear with warm skies. And, now we can say we’ve been to another place in PA with a unique name.

Statesboro, GA
A couple of years ago we got tired of taking the interstates all the way to Florida. Our little senior retirement community in Taylors, SC is close to US-25. So we have started taking that highway down to Statesboro, GA and spending the night.
The Parkwood RV Park is situated right on US-25 and US-301. It’s been very convenient for us and has all the amenities we like and are accustomed to using. The sites are nice and large, easy to get into, level sites. Our site was a FHU service with 50 amp and free CATV & WI-FI. There are plenty of places to eat very close by and big rig friendly service stations, all with diesel & gas pumps.
When we leave there we take US-301 south and connect up with US-1 which takes us right into Jacksonville. All of the rural roads are in excellent condition with many places to pull-off if needed. Most of the speed limits are 55 - 65 MPH with light traffic flow on week days. We get our best fuel economy at 55 - 62 MPH so that helps a little on the fuel budget.
Here are a few pictures of our parking site when last there and a glimpse of the park roads. The web site below is active.

Iola, KS
If you’ve read some of my traveling posts you know we hardly ever make reservations when traveling from place to place. During our short stop in Iola we were heading for Branson, MO where we did have reservations.
Following US-54 east and just before entering Iola we spotted the Iola RV Park just of the highway. What a great little park. All FHU 50 amps pull thru sites with a nice country store and friendly people. Pulled in, disconnected, and found a good signal for the dish. We had time to spare and spent a couple of days exploring the small KS town of Iola. Went to some yard sales, ate in a downtown dinner and rode the trolley; all at a very reasonable price.
Traveling US-54 in Greenwood County exposes you to some of the largest and most beautiful cattle grazing lands in the country.
The RV Park link is active.

Massena, NY
One year while meandering along NY-37 bordering the St. Lawrence River, we were a whole day early for a reservation at Apple Island Resort in VT. We seldom park without FHUs. However, for a single night we will take an elect/water only site.
During this trip we had downloaded enough weight to carry another couple with us. It was Linda’s sister and her husband. We left the stuff at their home.
Near Massena, NY we saw an advertisement for Coles Creek, SP. The park is not visible from the highway, so we drove in on their paved road to the office area. A park ranger took us on a ride with his modified golf cart to show us sites available for our rig (57’). We chose a site parallel with the water. Later, after we parked the ranger brought us some wood for an onsite fire ring. The Rocky Riverbanks near our trailer held a lot of small fish. I always carry fishing equipment for all occasions and had a lot of fun catching those small fish with a light rig and a black crappie jig.
We got to the CG early enough for a full setup. We played corn hole, did some fishing, had a light dinner, and later near dark roasted marshmallows. It was a fun time overnighter at a well-maintained NY, SP.

Bozrah, CT
We've been visiting and using the Odetha Campground Resort since we started full time traveling back in 2003.
Whenever we head north up through CT we always stop in Bozrah for a week. I can’t remember just how many times we’ve stayed at the CG. I went back and looked at our pictures but the answer wasn’t there.
Now, this Resort setting is expensive and depending on the time of year, reservations will be required. We found that out on our very first visit there. We ended up in a treed section atop a hill with 30 amps, water and gray water dumping connections. It was our very first experience with gray water connections so we had to purchase the fitting from the CG store.
There are ample black water dumping areas available when leaving the CG.
Sometimes bus loads of tent campers will show-up and the entertainment areas will get lively. Most sections will allow a camper and tent on the same site.
There are a lot of near-by attractions in the Bozrah area and the two huge casino complexes ( Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun) are within easy commuting distances. Both of those complexes have level parking area sections set aside for dry camping (no tents).
(On this stop, our long time Navy friends in the pride were traveling with us).

Massena International Kampground, Massena, NY
This is a well-situated campground if you want full amenities and a central location for side trips. Our site was a level grass site with FHU (50 amps) and CATV. Our section was back-to-back parking. Other sections had more traditional side-by-side parking. It’s about 65 miles from Alexandria Bay along the very scenic St. Lawrence River and part of the 1000 Islands.
Just a few miles east of the CG you’ll find the International Seaway Bridge. Using the bridge, it’s about 75 miles to Montréal.
Another close by attraction is the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort. They have free dry camping sites in their paved parking lot. Well-lit and just a short walk to the casino.

Laughlin, NV
During our full-time years, we wintered twice at Yuma, AZ. During the winter season the Yuma population quadruples. There a few hundred RV parks with thousands of available sites. By the 1st of October they are all full.
There are a lot of things to do from the Yuma location. There are numerous golf courses with reasonable rates 7 days a week. There are places at Lake Martinez for eating, taking paddle boat rides on the Colorado River and all sorts of boat rentals for fishing or just riding on the river. The river there is wide, between two dams and has deep clear water.
You can take a day trip out to the Yuma Proving Grounds and watch the parachutist fly and land. There are bus and van tours that go as far as San Diego for a night stay or Laughlin, NV where the hotel rooms are free, and the meals are inexpensive.
One year we took the Laughlin, NV tour bus. We went up US-95, crossed into CA and then back into AZ where we crossed from Bullhead City, AZ to Laughlin, NV. The ride and scenery were great especially along the Colorado River. During the first leg of the trip there isn’t much to see, and the bus had cash bingo games, 50 cents a card and winners take all.
I’ve just scratched the surface of things to do at Yuma. There are two huge flea markets. One is fully paved and covered and another in town where the weekly citizens go.
Yup! We like the place. We would go back in a flash if were younger.
