Disagree About Minuteman CG in Littleton, MA

A few that I can vouch for are Normandy Farms in Foxboro Mass (outstanding!), Minuteman CG in Littleton, MA, Hampton Beach State park in NH (sites right on the water and a 2 minute walk to the ocean) Pumpkin Patch RV Resort in Hermon, ME (not scenic, but large easy to access sites). KOA in Naples, ME, Shore Hill RV Park in Boothbay, ME (do not miss the nearby botanical gardens), Bailey's in Scarborough, ME. There are several good camprounds in the Trenton ME/Bar Harbor area.

Bear in mind that many of these campgrounds close in early to mid-October when temperatures freeze. Due to the limited number of campsites suited for big rigs, reservations are highly recommended. Especially in fall leaf season which runs from late Sept to mid-October.

Unfortunately my experience with Minuteman CG in Littleton, MA was not at all positive. Several years ago, I was driving my coach ALONE, planning to have my spouse, who was flying into Boston, to meet me there. The campground owner insisted on escorting me to my campsite and guiding me while I was backing into position. Unfortunately his directions caused me back into his off-road vehicle that he had parked in the way. That caused thousands of dollars worth of fiberglass damage to the rear of my coach. During his strong objections to taking any responsibility for the damage to my coach, he falsely claimed that I had unregistered guests who used his facilities and that I had an unregistered dog. None of his claims had a shred of truth. I tried to settle my out-of-pocket costs through Massachusetts arbitration but the owner flatly refused to participate in any way. There is NO WAY that I would EVER stay at that campground again.

Sorry - cannot agree with you.

We are staying in NH near Lake Winnipesaukee, and there are a ton of RV CGs all around. Most look nice, and there is even a popular State park right down the road with a big, beautiful beach.

In driving around NH and VT on day trips we have noticed that there are many RV CGs. Most appear to be private CGs - not chains - but they are everywhere. We love New England and have found it a great place to RV over the summer.

All in all have found RVing in New England not much different that anywhere else. Plenty of places to stay. Just use a good app to help find them. I use Allstays

My take on it. Even though i live in Maine i have never camped at a CG here. In fact in our over 60 years Riving we have only stayed at 3 CG's. That being said one thing we should realize is that some small private CG's have to keep their sites full to make a decent living. One that comes to mind is 5 miles from me. Where you can rent a site for around $45. full hookups. Last years prices. I'm not sure if they are still the same.

I'm sure more folks in the business are in the same boat. (Pun intended)

Short season with reservations that don't fill up may be a factor. I have never looked up the stats. but wouldn't be surprised if Maine had the fewest class A rigs in the country. JMHO.

I think Dave’s original posting has degenerated into something than the original intent. If people have suggested better alternative CGs, I think that’d be far more instructive. IMO

Here's a very nice campground just a short boat ride across from Bar Harbor. My DW is from ME and in fact we honeymooned on the coast of ME very near BH 53 years ago.

Try looking up Main Stays CG. It only has 10 sights which are all right on Winter harbors cove. Very nice and quiet. They can fit large RV's but their sights are kind of small.

Above I mentioned a short ride by boat to BH. Yes you can avoid all the crazy traffic and take a boat from MS CG to BH which leaves and arrives back at MS several times per day. From the CG it is a very short walk to downtown Winter Harbor. It has several very nice restaurants that have indoor outdoor dining, a store to buy hardware and various other things you can't live without. A nice grocery store which also sells wine. The prices are OK but you don't have to drive 25 miles to the next largest town either.

The lobster pound is about 1/2 a mile from the CG and a fresh fish facility is about 1/4 mile north from the downtown area. We bought 30 lbs. of fresh fish stuck it in our RV freezer and took it home.

Roger and Pearl run the CG which also has several different cabins for rent. The cabins were for couples up to full sized families. There's a washer and dryer. The washer reasonably priced and clothes rack outside to hang your things for drying. Remember hanging your freshly washed clothes outside? What a deal.

They also have two or more garden areas, and all campers are welcome to the seasonal fresh stuff growing within reason. Plus, there were fresh black berries, raspberries and blue berries all over the place for you to just pick.

The boat dock to catch a ride to BH is a 5 minute walk from the CG. There's also a bakery maybe 2-3 minutes from the CG which has fresh bread, cookies and other kinds of sinful sweets. Get there early before it's all sold out.

The small coastal town of Corea is about 5 miles away. They have the Warf set up to serve all kinds of fresh lobster, fish hot dogs etc. etc. Not fancy dining but your setting looking out over the cove which all the local lobster boats use daily in season. You can even buy a beer or two.

Roger installed marine type of hookups which are very nice and rugged.

I don't know how to send you a PM to explain it. Don't want to derail Daves post.

Don,
To send a PM (Private Message) just drag your cursor over the posters username in the upper left corner and click on it. A list of options will appear. Choose the PM one and send your message.

As stated by others you can turn that option off if you choose to.

Think it’s working, but perhaps only on certain platforms? I commented on another topic about clicking on the user name to see their rv info. Some said they couldn’t see it on their android device. I’m on an apple and just sent (?) you a pm.

Sorry! I've turned off messaging because I was getting bombarded with questions.

I just asked a simple question and I don't think an answer would have derailed the post. Posts get derailed all the time.

There were 5 replies from your post so it was derailed more than just answering the question.

Regardless, it's no big deal not to answer. It was just a thought of mine. Thanks anyway!

I find this thread a good example of how folks can travel to the same places and have radically different experiences and opinions. The can happen with people visiting other countries. I don't know for sure, but I suspect a lot of it has to do with that old saw: "No matter where you go, there you are."

Hi, well the short answer is for many years my rv was for hunting and fishing. All over and for many days a year. Alaska, USA, Canada. Working on the pipeline etc. Always in or near wilderness. Even now when i travel it's just truck stops.
