Dog Friendly Locations

Like us, I know many people on here love traveling with their dogs and one of the criteria we have when looking at campgrounds is how dog friendly is it. Do they offer walking? Do they have leash off areas? What are some of your favorite dog friendly destinations?

Right now we are looking at going to FourPaws this year as well as Normandy Farms as both seem top notch for pets.

We spent a month at Four Paws Kingdom and loved it. The Great Outdoors in Titusville, Fla is another favorite.

James Island County Park in Charleston S.C. has a great dog park. It has a large fenced in area with a lake and a sandy beach for the dogs. They can be unleashed in the dog park too.

Where are Four Paws and Normandy Farms?

One of these days your travels should bring you to Fort Wilderness at Disney World. They have loops that are pet freindly and dog parks where you can let you dog off the leash and socialize with all the other dog owners.

I should have also mentioned James Island Park in Charleston. Two large off leash parks which include swimming beaches for the pups! It's fun to just watch the big dogs hit the water with a full head of steam while chasing a stick.

I like Normandy Farms, MA. Nice dog park. Down the road in the Cape Cod/Plymouth KOA that also has a dog park. Not sure if they still offer the service, but Sweet Water in Brewster, MA (Cape Cod) had a kennel service. KOA Ocean Side in Acadia National Park / Bar Harbor, ME, also has a dog park. We travel with 2 dachshunds, Hansel and Gretel, and they love to run around but are two small to enjoy the obstacle courses!

4 Paws Kingdom in NC is themed around dogs, so most all the people who frequent the park have a dog or dogs. The owners are really great hosts, and have many dog related activities just for dogs and their owners. An agility course, swimming pond, strategically placed dog runs and special dog seminars with vets. and groomers on hand to answer questions. Non-dog owners might be put off by all the dog antics, such as barking, etc., but if you are a dog lover, this place can't be beat!

I used to do a lot of shark fishing just off James Island. Caught some big ones too!
