My wife Elinor and I are heading across the country from Green Bay WI to Malibu CA next week in our 2016 Pleasure Van's Unity with a Fiat 500L Toad.....Our first "experience" will be the Mt Rushmore SP
We will be departing Rapid City KOA the morning of Wednesday July 27th and heading through the park on our way to Denver (as early as the park might be open).......Does anyone have any suggestions as to a route through the park that can be navigated....Or a suggestion as to where to park the RV and utilize the Toad only perhaps......I am hearing that the route 16A (Iron Mountain Road) is navigable but the Needles Highway is not as an example.....Just looking for ideas based upon the fact that we wish to undertake this visit en-route as it were......Many thanks for any suggestions.

I can't say how crowded the park will be ; mid summer ; no matter what time you arrive, I was there in October and it was crowded, there is limited RV parking at MR, you can go to Google maps then satellite photos to see the area.
Parking at the Crazy Horse monument was not RV friendly, we had just taken our truck ( 5er was in Rapid City ) and had issues finding parking.
We only drove the area in our truck , but can't say I noticed any roads that could be an issue for a small RV & toad. If memory serves , I passed RVs on all the roads I traveled in the area.

I am not familiar with your rig or toad, but I've been in that area and ridden thousands of miles on bikes over the years.

I personally would not tow OR drive a MH on either Iron Mountain or 16. People do, but they also get stuck and/ or cause big backups. Both those roads are best seen from toad or motorcycle :-). Twisty turny and crowded. Ohan wildlife.

We've had good luck at Heartland RV campground just south of Hermosa.

It's a beautiful area - enjoy!
