Early January Trip Ideas (Western US)

We live in NE Arizona. Kids are going to be out of school for about 10 days. Looking for ideas of places to go during the end of December and early January. Kids are ages 7-18. Ideas appreciated. Prefer full hookups whenever possible since there are 7 of us total.

It is hard to answer without knowing how far you want to drive, and what you like to do once in a park. Wine tasting antiquing etc.

With 5 kids, we need stuff geared in that direction. We live in NE Arizona, so for driving it would just be from essentially PHX to wherever we go

I would second San Diego. Zoo, Midway, beach, boat rentals, paddle board rentals. Just a few things. Oh yeah. Probably nice and warm. Chula Vista Resort is a great place. Pool, hot tub, bay front park. Biking is good too.

Bisbee, Benson, and Tombstone have campgrounds and stuff to see and do!
Karchner Caverns, and many others in these links.
A ton of family fun at these 3 close-by towns.

IMHO the San Diego Zoo should be a bucket list item for all kids (and their parents)! It will be expensive, but an absolute blast to stay in the San Diego area for 5 or 6 days. Plan on 2 days for the zoo, and then take a boat sightseeing tour and see the dolphins and sea lions. We like the KOA. Big roomy sites with grass and things for the kids to do. Going or coming you could also do some desert things like Death Valley. There might be hook ups still available at Stovepipe Wells. That is where we will be staying for a week in January. Lots of hiking and sight seeing. Joshua Tree is cool too, though I doubt there will be hookups in the park itself.
