Had plans to go to the South west for the winter, wondered what it would cost to sit for a month, however, as it sometimes happens, plans have changed.

We stay in Tuscon Feb to 2nd week April and electric is $50 a month. Only use propane heat early morning and no a/c required until late March. Then only midday a few hours.

Just got this month's bill, $271.37. That is mostly AC use as it's been in the 90s here in Tampa. Rate is $0.1496.

Does your bill include any other charges, like meter-reading or the like? If not, then you're averaging 60 kwh/day of electricity. If you have two air conditioner units, they have to be running close to 24 hours/day to get up to 60 kwh/day if all your other electrical loads are normal.

they run 24/7 front set between 58 to 64, rear set 66 to 70. I prefer Alaska temps to Florida, not sure how these people live here in this heat.

Don't you think it might have been helpful when you said what your electric bill is that you divulge that you keep your air conditioners set that low?

I'll know better next time. Fortunately you were here to point out the error. I foolishly assumed that giving the actual cost per kwh and stating the bill was mostly AC use that would be sufficient.

it was.....

just like when BEC said it was feb in tucson and their bill was $50.... now their gas bill is another thing...

The OP was asking about electricity costs in the winter, when there would be very little, if any, air conditioner use, never mind "mostly" air conditioner use, by any definition.

But look at the numbers I gave above--15 kwh/day with absorption refrigerator and no climate control, bumped up to 30 kwh/day with moderate use of air conditioners or electric heat. Somebody using a little more air conditioning than that would be in the "mostly" air conditioning category, and still far below your 60 kwh/day of "mostly" air conditioning.

If someone is asking what to expect when it comes to electric bills (which I think isn't a good question--it should be how many kilowatt hours will be used), then known outliers should divulge why their numbers might not be "normal" for most people.

But BEC said s/he uses propane heat only early in the morning. I agree that it would be nice to know how much that amounts to, because if the heating isn't done with propane it'll be done with electricity. But it doesn't sound like a lot of propane use.

That's a lot different from not mentioning that the number one gives includes two air conditioners running 24 hours/day.

I don't expect perfection. In discussions like this, pretty much nobody ever says whether they have a residential or absorption refrigerator, and that makes a definite difference. But if you know you have a "special" situation, like keeping an air conditioner set between 58 and 64 degrees in the summer in Florida, not mentioning that can be misleading.

We are in Louisiana where the daily temps are very high plus the humidity. We have a 44 ft coach with 3 AC units and have our temps set for 72 during the day but we like it cold at 70 at night. We also use electric for our hot water and we have a washer and dryer on board that we use weekly. Our max electric bill this summer was $85.00. Hope this helps

The OP's question was: "For those of you that go south for the winter, be it tx, az, FL or wherever, when you rent a space for the winter, and they bill you for the electric, what would you say would be an average bill?"

Well in the winter in Louisiana, your average electricity is about $20.00 per month.

After three years FT. Utilities avg about 100 month, coldest and hottest a bill can be 130+-/ Lowest 60-+, in Red River RV they charge .25 to .30 cents a kw. In Tn. it’s cheep. In South Fork CO. It was .13 cents a kw.. propane was usually less then $20 for a small bottle everywhere.

Just to add some more info. I have an RV lot in Southern California. Renters bills for electricity in Dec/Jan are between $75 and $200 per month. One of the bills was $300, I was told that the renter used electricity to heat their MH, must have been a pretty high set point. It rarely gets below freezing there. Live in AZ, electric rate is about half of CA.
