Elkhart, IN....spur of the moment trip

DW and I are thinking about taking a quick trip up to the Elkhart area....Elkhart, Middlebury, Shipshewana....during the last two weeks of August. Looks like their temps are generally lower than here in the south and we are just a little stir crazy and never been to that area.

My question is how likely will we be able to get into a decent RV park/s during this time without advance reservations? I know it is the RV capital of the world so to speak.

you can probably stay overnight at any of the factory parking lots, especially if you are doing a tour - most have rv hookups at their service centers...

and don't forget Fleetwood/AmericanCoach in Decatur

if you want to stay anywhere in ir near Shipshewana and our visit coincides with the Shipshewana flea market you will need reservations. the FM schedule is on-line. i'd prob make them anyway.

I'm headed out to Elkhart the middle two weeks of August. I have reservations at Pokagon State Park and Elkhart Campground. No problems getting a site at either place.

We've RV'd in Elkhart in August. I'd say no problem during the week. The parks can get crowded on a weekend so pickin's may not be what you want, but there'd be sites available at any of the local parks.

Be sure you get in some eatin' in at the Amish/Mennonite restaurants & visit the RVMH HoF.

Aug 6 through the 12, 2017 the F.R.O.G.'S will be at the fair grounds holding their annual international rally. Approximately 800 campers will be there with tours to various points of interest. You may want to go later in the month.

F.R.O.G. stands for Forest River Owners Group.

We stay at the Elkhart Fairgrounds campground. Full hook ups but there is a nearby train. Pretty central to the area.
