Favorite State Parks in Oregon

We have recently retired from Southern California to Roseburg Oregon and we're excited about exploring this beautiful state and the many state parks available for camping.

We would appreciate knowing your favorite state parks and what makes them special so we can prioritize our camping schedule for 2013. We anticipate taking two five day trips a month checking in on Sunday afternoon and leaving on Friday morning to miss the crouds as much as possible.

Thank you so much for any information your can provide. We have already began posting all of the state park locatons available for camping on a large Oregon map for reference.

We look forward to hearing from you.

IMHO, Oregon State Parks can put most high end RV Resorts to shame! They are beautiful.

One of our all time favorite spots (anywhere) is Cape Blanco. Great wooded sites and a short walk to the cliffs overlooking the beach and lighthouse. A nice spot to watch the resident whales frolic.

We too own a place in Roseburg, although we don't live there...yet, we will hopefully begin to spend our summers and fall in Roseburg.

We really love all of the camp grounds on HWY 138 to Crater Lake, especially Susan Creek. We were able to spend some time there this past summer and we can hardly stand the anticipation of returning next year.

Congratulations on your retirement.

Rick,
Thanks for the recommendation of Cape Blanco. It's not a bad drive from Roseburg either!

John,
I can't find Susan Creek on the map on Route 138. Is it before you get to Diamond Lake?

Thanks to both of you for your recommendations.

Cape Blanco for its stark beauty
Bullards - Bandon area is quaint
Carl Washburne - one of the most photographed lighthouse in the country & we were fortunate to have given tours there - Florence is a neat little town.
South Beach or Beverly Beach - Lots to do in the Newport area
Nehalem Bay - another fun area to explore
Fort Stevens - although we didn't care for the campground as much as others, you're able to get some good history lessons exploring the area and Astoria is neat

Basically, you can't go wrong at any of the state parks in Oregon. That state does it right!!! Have fun exploring the different ones!

Wirelessenab,

Thank you for the info. It's only 30 miles from home.
