First trip to the States
Hi we are going to make our first trip from Alberta to Salinas California. Any thoughts on route, places to overnight. Etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi - swing over from Calgary to Vancouver area. You have 4 Bordercrossings to choose from and I 5 going south. You can drive through Oregon via the Coastal Highway all the way to Salinas.
Have a safe trip

i try to avoid the Interstates and on my trip to Calgary using just some of the towns...From Calgary to Radium Hot SpringsCranbrook crossing at Eastport, Coeur d Alene, Lewiston/Clarkston, Walla Walla, Pendleton, Biggs, Redmond/Bend, Eugene, Florence, Brookings, Eureka, Petaluma, Napa, San Jose, and Salinas. If you are interested in this route I will give you some campground ideas.

United States Customs
I going to be heading to the US in a few weeks (Houlton, Maine crossing)
I found an excellent website last year that states what you can and can't cross the border with in reference to foods, meat, and vegetables. We normally wait and purchase most of this in the States, but last year took some home made pasta sauce with us. They would not allow us to keep it and cross. (I hope they choked on it at lunch) If anybody knows of a website with this information, I sure would appreciate it. I can find all kinds of information on crossing into Canada and what is allowed, but not the other way around.

Entering the US they are mainly concerned with produce. If it says product of USA on the packaging there shouldn't be any problem.

I have read on other posts here that bringing produce across state lines could be a problem? We are also planning to buy our food after we cross the border to avoid any unwanted problems
