So it looks like Fishing Bridge RV park will remain closed until fall 2021 since they weren't able to complete the renovations due to Covid. We are looking at taking our 32' 5th wheel and CCLB truck up to Yellowstone next summer. Looking at the other campgrounds it appears most of them have a 40' truck/trailer limit. I would imagine I can back the trailer in and park the truck diagonally in front of it but I have also heard that they measure you and will turn you away if your entire rig is over 40'. Can anyone shed some light on this?

We have never been measured in Yellowstone, and had our 37' Class a in a 35' site several times. With the closure a Fishing Bridge, we are staying at Bridge Bay in August. We reserved a 40' site for our 40' RV and a short tent site for our toad. Our kids may tent there.

We were there in our 28 ft class A (29'5" bumper to bumper) in 2017, staying at Grand, Canyon and Fishing Bridge camp grounds. We were booked into 30 ft spaces at all of them and all were tight and and the ones at Grant and Canyon were narrow (glad we did not have slides kind of narrow). The ones at Grant and Canyon were short enough that I put out orange warning cones, the problem was saplings grown up right at the back edge of the pavement allowing no rear overhang.

I stayed at Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone with a 45 footer and had room to spare for my toad. Make reservations as they are close to the west gate and they fill up quickly.

We've stayed at Mammoth, Madison and Bridge Bay with our 40' motorhome & Jeep. They're not going to measure you. If you don't fit you're out of luck. We didn't reserve anything. We parked nearby the previous night, drove in early morning and easily secured a site as folks were leaving. At Madison & Bridge Bay we got cancelled reservation sites.

I am assuming you are talking about this year staying in cancelled reservations?

Last June we stayed at Bakers hole (USFS), just 2 miles north of West Yellowstone, pulled in at 11 am on a Wednesday and easily secured 4 sites for 32 -34 ft 5th wheels, 2 with power and 2 without, plenty of long sites, all FCFS. about 10 minutes to West gate of the Park, once in the park, though, be prepared for massive Bison traffic jams, although those can happen anywhere in the park

Baker's Hole is another favorite of ours. We enjoy the back sites along the Madison River. So pretty. Again... no reservations.

I do say, of all the RVing I have done the last 25 years, Yellowstone Park campgrounds are by far the most "Stringent" on making sure "All" 4 tires of your tow vehicle are on pavement. The site I had at Madison Campground my one truck tire was hanging over the pavement, but not touching the ground. The park employees made sure everyday. I would test them by deliberately getting within a 1/4" of touching the ground. I don't know if it was just at the Madison Campground, but across the campsite loop there were 25-50+ parking spots. But you were not allowed to park a tow vehicle there. 99% of the time those parking spots stayed empty. I don't understand the reasoning.

When making a reservation, you really have to lie what your true "total" length is. I said I have a 26' RV trailer, towed by a 13' tow vehicle to get me under the 40' limit. Maybe they think I have a tiny old Jeep to tow the RV, not my 18' Tundra. I saw 40' 5ers there...

Our two weeks at both Madison and Bridge Bay, I didn't see anyone at the check in station measuring RV's.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore, Michigan is another. We volunteered there so we did the checking.

We have been at Bridge Bay a few times with our just< 35'er. Tight fit but doable for some. A very few sites that could handle 40' no problem. Paced off & estimated quite a few good for a >than 30' but <than 35'er. Needs skill & a good spotter.
