Flagstaff to Zion

In July I will be heading from Flag to Zion (Hurricane UT specifically).

For ease and speed of drive, is it better to drive the more typical route through Page and across 89, or the slightly shorter but windier route of "89A" before Page, going through Vermilion Cliffs NM?

All things being equal ... my TV would prefer the easier drive and I would prefer the more scenic, but time is at a premium and I won't be making stops that day.

Made that trip 1000s of times. The windy section isn't very long. You hit the curves at the southern base of the mountain. They dont last long past Jacob's lake. It's only around 30 miles across the mountain. I'd go that route if I was going to Hurricane.

We've done both and 89A is not a big deal.

I assume you know the route.... from Fredonia, AZ take 389 west which becomes UT59 to Hurricane..... a very pretty drive.

Unfortunately the fire has burnt much of the areas along 89A (one of my favorite roads) at Jacob Lake, which was evacuated 10 days ago. 89A only reopened to traffic 3 days ago.

Yep. The fires have burned just out my back door too down south here. Hard to avoid them this time of year, this year particularly...

Obvious route checks in order as you travel.
