Fort Wayne, Indiana campgrounds

We may be going to the Fort Wayne area for several weeks in mid-June and are looking for campground suggestions. DH is working up there, so we thought it would be nice to be together for a change while he's working! I went on RV Park Reviews and nothing jumped out at me. So, I'm looking for ideas! Thank you!

We ran into the same dilemma last year, as I have friends that live west of Ft. Wayne that we wanted to visit.

Ended up at the Yogi in Pierceton, which was convenient to to where my friends lived but would probably be a bit far out to commute into Ft. Wayne.

First, let me say that the folks there were very pleasant and helpful. The site they originally had selected for us just would not work and they let us pick another site. However, the reality is that they really don't have many "campsites" as the park is almost all seasonal / park model / "permanent" units, and obviously now caters to local summer weekenders.

We ended up on the "circle" to the right as your enter the park which was adequate for the short time we spent there, but the gravel pads (on all the sites we saw) were "marginal" even for our smaller Class A.

Quobache state park is very nice. They have buffaloes.

Chain O Lakes state park is also nice.

Make reservations.

We are currently at Camp Timber Lake. South of Fort Wayne and Northeast of Huntington. Nice, reasonably priced.

Depending on where your husband is working and what type of amenities you are looking for in a campground, here are some suggestions: Johnny Appleseed Park is in the northern part of the city, adjacent to the Memorial Coliseum, close to major shopping and restaurants, but short on amenities. Chain of Lakes State Park is NW of the city in Albion, and Fireside Resort at Kruse Park is in Auburn, north of the city right on Interstate 69. This I believe is a former KOA campground. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, one of our favorites is Pokagon State Park in Angola. It's roughly a 50 minute trip to Ft Wayne.
