Fredericksburg Tx in January

We are planning a trip out west from Florida in January. We would like to spend some time in the Fredericksburg area. It will be around the first week of the month and stay until the end of the month.
What is a good campground and how is the temperature this time of year?
I don’t mind nice and cool but don’t want freezing.

We stayed at Fredericksburg RV park and liked it. Very convenient.

Weather in Jan? haha. 75 or 0. You never know in TX.

We just spent this January out there. We stayed at Medina Lakes, which is a 1000 Trails park. It is about 85 miles from Fredericksburg, but we went there twice. Plus on our way back from Casa Grande, Arizona we stayed for the month of April there as well. So we spent 8 weeks in the Medina Lakes campground since the first of the year.
The weather for us was pretty good, we had temps in the 60's and at night generally in the high 40's low 50's. We did not have any issues with the temps. There is a RV park in Fredericksburg which seem to be really nice, we did not stay there but drove around it.
When you are there you need to see the museum in town. It is called "The museum of the Pacific War". It is very nice and inside they have a door from the USS Arizona along with other interesting displays. There is also a Japanese Peace Garden given to Adm. Nimitz by the Japanese people after WW2. It is beautiful.
Also San Antonio is not that far down the road, we loved going there, River Walk, The Alamo, other missions, are just some things to see.

If you check RV Parky it will show what is around the area.

We lived in the Austin area for 25 years. January and February in central Texas (and that includes Fredericksburg) are highly varied. You could have comfortable temperatures or you could have a hard, cold freeze for several days. Pack appropriately.

Buckhorn Lakes RV Resort in Kerrville. an EZ 20-min drive to F'burg. while in F'burg be sure to visit the Museum of the Pacific War as well as Luchebach, TX, about 15m south of US290 on TX1376. also the Johnson Ranch, River Walk in San Antone.

We had a long weekend trip planned to Fredericksburg in late January or early February a couple of years ago (400 miles away from home), and canceled at the lat minute due to a cold front coming through that weekend, forecast highs for a couple of days in Fredericksburg were around 27F and lows of about 14F as I recall. The week before and the week after highs were in the 50's, so it is all about timing.

We have used Ladybird Johnson park campground (public park with full hookup campground, check in office, etc.), though I don't recall any laundry facility. Would certainly use it again, I don't know if they have max stay limits, it is next to the airport runway, but this is not a big issue as only a few flights per day go in and out and almost all are during the daytime. This is part of the larger Ladybird Johnson municipal park, golf course, etc.

We have also stayed at Oakwood RV resort, nice enough place, older RV park, the older sites have trees but are almost all back ins and tight, newer sites are a giant gravel parking lot with rows of sites. Only real downside is the one way in one way out, and if someone is stopped at check in you are blocked from going around them due to narrow driveway.

Lady Bird CP & Quite Creek are just on the edge of town. We have stayed at both, nice.
IIRC Lady bird was a little more expensive. We spent 17-20 Feb in shirt sleeve/light jack.

X2 on the Museum of the Pacific. My Dad served with Nimitz. I spent 3 years in Japan as a kid 54-57. Loved the Garden.

January is prime time for an ice storm in central Texas.

I better re-think Fredericksburg for Jan and keep heading out west. I will catch it coming back in October.

By the River Campground in Kerrville is a lovely property. It appears to be an old family farm that was repurposed. You get to it thru a neighborhood and then nothing but country with a river running thru it. Really quiet and peaceful if that's what you like.

we were at Buckhorn Lakes in Kerrville for a week starting the last week in January. weather was a mix of sun and coolish on some days and sunny and warmer on others but we did end up extending a day due to wintry mix west of Kerrville.

As you can tell it is really the luck of the draw that time of year in the region, some years worse than others.

The weather in central Texas can be anywhere from the 70 degF range down into the teens in January and February. There can also be snow and ice. These temperature dips usually only last a couple of days, but on occasion can last a few days.

Basically, if you don't like the weather, wait a day or two and it will change.
