Freeport

We are in Middleborough, MA leaving tomorrow for Old Orchard Beach, ME. Would like to stop at LL Bean in Freeport on our way. Can anyone tell me if is feasible to drive a 40’ Class A towing to the flagship store? Is there parking available?

Thanks for any help you can offer. Would like to stop there but not want to get into a difficult situation.

LL Bean (Freeport) is not on the way from MA to OOB. It is quite a bit north of OOB.

You won't be able to get coach parking close to the flagship. The lots there are narrow-access roads, no place to turn around, and usually jam-packed with cars driving around, hawking for a space.

Freeport itself is very congested. LOTS of pedestrian crossings that you must stop at. LOTS of traffic.

Look at the south end of town, Grove St. and Depot St. There is a lot with RV parking. Coming from the south (use the Desert Rd. exit, 20, don't go all the way to 125, exit 22), turn right at the Fire Department. Navigate around the tour busses that usually stop there. Turn left on Depot St. Look at the lot on the left - it has 4 pull-thru spots.

Do yourself a favor and study Google satellite view for the area (don't let the parking lot spaces fool you, all those off Morse and Cross and Justin's are generally packed by 10 AM).

You would be wise to get there very early to snag a spot.

TBH, we would never take our coach there. Much easier just using the towed.

You are so right! I don’t know how I was thinking Freeport was on this side of Portland. After we got settled in OOB we did end up riding up to Freeport. You’re right again! It was so very crowded and definitely not the place for an RV. Since neither of us are shoppers we didn’t stay very long. We did enjoy the Portland Head Light though so it wasn’t a total bust! Thanks for all the info. Will be in Maine the next two weeks so looking forward to a lot of exploring.

Freeport "back in the day" was a lot more quirky, unique stores and outlets (and locally-owned eateries) and not so much corporate and chain "outlets" (many of which aren't really outlets in the true sense of the word). That was 20 years ago or so. We mourn the loss of many of them and despise the razing of the original LL Bean Outlet to put that monstrosity of a fake "town center and parking garage" in its place.

Same with Kittery.

Are you staying mostly in the OOB area or venturing further into Maine? That's the only sand beach in Maine - most of the coast it gorgeous rocky areas. Much less touristy.

We are actually headed to Boothbay today through Sunday and then on to Trenton for five days in Acadia and the surrounding area. Hope the rain goes away!
