Frontier Days - Cheyenne, WY

Has anyone been to Frontier Days in Cheyenne, WY and what are suggestions on RV parks nearby to stay. I am assuming reservations in the RV parks in Cheyenne are probably full by now.

Campgrounds......check availability for 2022
https://www.cheyenne.org/hotels/campsites-rv-parks/

Haven't been there since 1971
Use to drive down from Casper Jr/Sr years in High School
Back then it was WILD & Wooley ....drinking, fighting, rodeoing, more drinking, fighting & rodeoing
As a Teenager it was an Adult Disneyland.

From the picture it looks like a Western Theme Amusement Park
Hopefully someone that has been recently will post up.....

We did that this past summer.
We stayed at Curt Gowdy State Park. The reason we stayed at Curt Gowdy was all the RV parks in Cheyenne were very expensive during Frontier Days with pay up front and no refunds for any reason. I should note that CGSP does not have a dump station in the park.

Route 210 is an easy road to drive from the State Park to Cheyenne. Just as you get to town they had a parking and shuttle bus service set up that made it very convenient.

They have an online ticket purchase for events and concerts. No trouble getting tickets. Only thing I saw sold out was Garth Brooks concert.

They have a parade in downtown Cheyenne every morning and a free pancake breakfast during the week.

And if you have been to smaller rodeos in the past you will notice the higher caliber of contestants. And it’s very well organized with no pause between riders and events.

It was a good time and enjoyed our week at Frontier Days.

We have been a couple of times. We ended up staying in a hotel because it was cheaper in the long run. The rodeo itself is the best you will ever see from a contestant ability/ fun to watch event. The place is very family oriented and we really had a good time both years we went.

If you can boondock, check out Vedauwoo USFS campground (FCFS) about 15-20 miles west of Cheyenne on I 80. there is also dispersed camping up the road from it. Dump station at old territorial state prison in Laramie.

If everything close to Cheyenne is booked up - you might try a couple of KOAs north of Fort Collins. It’s an easy commute.

Vedauwoo has about 25 RV sites on 2 small camping loops, most are smaller sites, my 28 ft class A will fit in perhaps half the sites or so, one set of pit toilets, and a single common water spigot that was not working the 2 times I stayed there in 2017. Two nice things about it are the elevation at about 8,000 feet, so expect cool nights, and its only about half a mile off the interstate. As mentioned there is also free boondock camping right outside the campground on the forest service road if it is full or if you don't want to pay the small campground fee. Like many such campgrounds it tends to fill up as the sun goes down.

We stayed at the Terry Bison Ranch in September. Located just south of Cheyenne next to the interstate. Lots to do, nice bar and restaurant, rodeo and concert arena. They offer FHU sites as well as dry camping with nice views of their valley. It made a great base camp for exploring the area. Lots of good info on their website. Lots of critters roaming around, even a few camels!

This pretty much nails it!

Although, many times Curt Gowdy is full and it has a heck of a steep drop down to the area.

If you continue down hiway 210, or as it's called here locally, Happy Jack road, there are tons of dispersed camping available. It will be about another 10 miles or so west towards Laramie, but there are a lot of options for camping.
Of course all of it is going to be boondocking other than the few camp grounds around Cheyenne.
And, as said, the prices are insane during Frontier Days.

Depending on the size of your rig, I could possibly accommodate you at our residence if you don't find anything and have to be plugged in. Just have a standard 20 amp plug though.
