Georgia Aquarium
Any suggestions for RV park within an hour of the aquarium in Atlanta? I went on campgroundreviews.com, but no help there (or I didn't search the right way). Thanks!

We also stayed at Stone Mtn when we visited the aquarium. Very nice. Other thoughts or suggestions: Try to get to the aquarium early in the day. There is parking at the aquarium. Later in the day was very crowded. At least it was when we visited.

Georgia Aquarium
Stone mountain is good, there is also Fort Yargo State park in Winder. Nice place as well also within an hours drive of downtown.
Remember Atlanta has 2 rush hours. 7am to 11am and 1pm to 7 pm

Rush hours are not quite that bad . But Winder / downtown Atl at rush hour is a good 90 minutes plus and would be no fun.

We are painfully familiar with Atlanta rush hour during the week. If we went early on a Saturday, would that be any better?

Shouldn't be a problem traffic wise heading into town, just be cognizant of anything going on downtown that would create traffic problems there. Probably 45 minutes or so from Winder.... Of course, you'll have more of a crowd at the aquarium (or other local attractions) on a Saturday.
I think the one attraction in Atlanta that I was most impressed with, and can be missed by those coming into town is the Cyclorama. It is a huge 360 degree diorama of the battle of Atlanta and it is next to Zoo Atlanta (it is ok, too.....). They are going to be moving the Cyclorama, so if you are interested in going please check it out first.
Camping around Atlanta can be a challenge. While I have been to Stone Mountain several times, I have not yet seen the campground, but it seems a lot of people like it. We considered going to Fort Yargo on our first shake down trip which would have been a 20 minute drive, but decided to drive 2 hours up to a KOA on Lake Hartwell.

Just saw this morning the Cyclorama is closing on June 30th as they will be restoring it and moving to a new site. Not sure when the new site will be open, or where is is.
