We just returned from a trip this week in the Dahlonega area. We stayed in Turners Corner – about 15 miles North on US-19 from Dahlonega. Nice place, good facilities... The family enjoyed playing in the adjacent creek. We also visited the ˜Gold n Gem Grubbin' mine in Cleveland. Worth the trip if you're into that...

Ft. Mtn. State Park near Chatsworth, GA, has a great campground. As the name suggests, it is on a mountain and consequently cooler. Nice trails and overlooks in the park, and you can easily travel from there to other nearby attractions...

You should take a look at Cloudland Canyon State Park. It is part of Lookout Mountain and has a good variety of hiking trails. Easy, moderate and huff-and-puff.
Campground is really nice. It is scheduled for a major renovation to modernize it later this summer but I think they will keep the campground open during the work.

We just returned from 2 weeks up that way and stayed at several campgrounds. Our favorite, by far, was Enota Campground on HWY 180 between Blairsville and Hiawassee. Each campsite has a creek running directly behind motorhome, they have 2 large waterfalls on the property and also part of the Appalachian trail. Each campsite also has it's own wooden deck and picnic area and the staff are very friendly. We will DEFINITELY return to this one! You will not be disappointed.

There is a great state park near Helen Ga. Unicoi State park. It has hiking trails, great facilities for RVers and a resterant on site. Also the town of Helen is a good place to visit. Good resterants and lots of shops.

Hiawassee also has the Georgia Mountain Top campground right on lake Chtauge -- don't know about availability but worth a check if you like lakes. Perhaps Blue Ridge would be another town to check out. Helen was way too much of a tourist trap for my likes. Let us know how you like the area -- we hope to make this our fall base camp area once we are fulltimers.

River Vista CG in Dillard is full service. While staying there, I hiked several trails in the area. Wife would take me and Jake ( the dog), put us out and come back a couple of days later. She would stay a CG with Taz ( the cat) and friends. We really liked it there. Not far to everything else to do and see.
