Georgia to Coastal Maine

Looking to make a trip from south Georgia to Coastal Maine. Looking for some tips on how best to travel such a trip. Interstate 95 is obvious path. Looking also to have rv sites spaced along the trip at roughly 360 miles/ day. Thinking getting through some of the larger cities, there might be better alternative routes???? Need roads appropriate for 36' diesel pusher with toad.
I was doing seemingly well with planning until I got around New York area as far as overnight stay possibilites. Also no clue how long it will take me to get through these larger cities. Do I need to give myself extra hour (or more) driving time?
Thank you for any and all help. Greatly appreciate any little tip.
Vicky

A couple of years back, we made the trip from south GA to New York City and Niagara Falls. There is a campground in Jersey City called Liberty Harbor RV park. We opted to stay in a campground in Florida, NY called Black Bear Campground. They offered a one day guided bus tour to New York City. It was an outstanding tour and well worth the money. Donít know if this helps or not.

Bring along plenty of money for toll roads. I bypassed the big cities but they love tolls up north. I believe I took I-81 north and then headed northeast to eventually get to Mount Desert Island.

Georgia to Coastal Maine

Not sure which side of GA youíre on. We live near Charlotte and always go up the Shenandoah Valley. If you want to stick to the interstates that will be I-77, I-81, and I-88 then across northern Mass or through Vermont and New Hampshire. Beautiful scenery and much less traffic.

Even if you are east Ga you can take 95to 26 to 77.

Hope you're not going soon. I wouldn't travel the east coast for anything; west coast either.

My wife and I went that way from South Carolina, 4 years ago. As mentioned by a member earlier, we took the 77, 81, 88, 90, 95 route. It was easy driving. The only thing that surprised me was how much it cost to get across Massachusetts (tolls). I wrote a trip report that is posted in this forum: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f38/new-...ighlight=maine

From Valdosta:
US 84 to Waycross; US 1 to I-20; I-20 to Columbia; I-77 to I-81; I-81 to Scranton; I-84 through Hartford to the Mass. Pike; I-495 near Worcester to I-95; I-295 through Portland, then when and where you want the coastal highway (US 1).
Driven that basic route--though not from Valdosta--several times.

We have done that route from N Georgia. Get over to I-81 as Guy described. Stay away from DC and NYC. Neither or place is made for RVs in my opinion. We went I-81 thru Harrisburg PA then worked our way toward the east near Albany NY. From there we did surface roads. Some old bridges with low beams across the top caused me to be very careful. Not the best road surfaces, but it was a very interesting trip.

When are you planning to travel? Hopefully this is "advanced planning" for later this summer and not an impending trip. And be aware there are virtually no RV parks open in Maine until sometime in May, many don't open until Memorial Day weekend.

Why travel now? There is this virus out there that has most of the country shut down. Planning long range out is ok, but shelter in place is now and keeps it from spreading.

Absolutely NOT traveling now. I'm sorry, I should have been clear about that. Long term planning. Not even sure if this will be the year it happens with the madness going on at this time. Thank you for your concern.

Just to add: NOT going soon. Won't be going anywhere soon. Looking towards end of SOME summer. With all that is going on, may not be THIS summer. I should have added that into the question. Best time to do such a trip? Would very much like to get out of south GA heat August and September.

Is a prepaid pass available such as the sun pass in FL? I have one I use for FL and GA. Makes life easier if not any less expensive.

Would love to see your plan however this link just takes me to the forum, not your specific post. And it COULD be just my inability to navigate the site. LOL
