Getting my kicks on Route 66

I left Kingman this morning and drove east on Route 66. I’ve driven it several times before and didn’t make very many stops. This is in Williams. I couldn’t believe I found five empty spaces in a row. It was a tight fit but enough to park my MH. I got out and walked around for a couple of hours.

People talk about camping and RV parks. I’m more of a tourist that can’t pass up a tourist trap and buy overpriced cheap trinkets.

It's always nice when you can park near a tourist spot. It sounds like you had a great time.
Route 66 covers many states so I'm not sure what state(s) you were in.
If you add your MH to your signature will be able to know what MH you have.

I’m in Williams, AZ. For some reason my signature only posts on Quick Reply from my cellphone.

Thats awesome!
Whoever said stand on a corner, in Winslow, I'd second that. 2nd and Kinsley, there's a statue.

While you're in the neighborhood, go to the meteor crater. That's pretty cool too.

Funny you mention it as I’m camped here tonight and will see it in the morning. I was going to standing on the corner but I’ve seen it before and haven’t been to the crater.

On our way back to Wisconsin from the Grand Canyon in late October we took I-40 and I-44, making some Rte 66 stops, including the ones mentioned starting in Williams. Tons of cool stuff like Pop's in Arcadia, Oklahoma and the bowling alley with all the old full size gas station signs all over their parking lot in Chandler, Oklahoma. We hope to hit more on the way home from our winter trip.

Check out Oatman.

You might be in the middle of a gunfight if you park on the main street!

You might start a gun fight if you park a big class A on main Street in Oatman. Saw a few C class drive through town but nowhere to park. [emoji173] Oatman.

Oatman is cool. Wild burros (well, sorta) wander through town and are part of the local lore. The road to it is not good for big rigs though.

Williams is also a great Route 66 tourist town. From Kingman you can head east towards Williams on a good 87 miles of Route 66 that is still intact. While you're at it you can tour Grand Canyon Caverns, a bit of a tourist trap, but interesting, nonetheless. Also, by taking Route 66 you bypass a lot of bad pavement on that part of I-40 between Kingman and Seligman. They should rename that stretch after our worthless Governor.
