Getting ready for our longest trip. Should we do anything different?

We have a 2018 keystone hideout 35 footer. We are getting ready to make the longest camping trip we ever have. We normally camp within an hour of where we live, but Sunday we are leaving for beautiful Bull Shoals lake in Arkansas. It’s a 400 mike trip. Do you guys do anything different for longer trips? I don’t want to jinx myself, LOL, but take any more tools in case of breakdowns, change the way anything in the camper travels? Stop and check things every so often? Just want to make sure this first long trip isn’t our last LOL.

My only advice is to stop and take a break every hundred miles or so. Otherwise I carry the same tools when traveling 800 miles as when traveling 80. 400 miles is a long days drive.

Nope not much different than doing a "local" campout.
Walk around inspection (hitch/lights/tires and coach interior check within 30 minutes of departing and then the same every 2 hours or so..(get your exercise and avoid stiffness of the joints)

400 miles is the first half of the day for Many - so just enjoy the drive. .

IMHO a LONG TRIP is measured in Thousands of miles not Hundreds -

Best of Luck,

I don't do anything different. Being prepared is being prepared, no matter how long the trip.

Nope, I don't do anything different for a trip 500 miles away or 20 miles away.
I always check the coach's bodily fluids (oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, etc) before every trip. It never changes, but still I check.
Pack whatever is necessary for that particular trip and off we go.

Have a fun and safe trip!

Pack a credit card. It will take care of anything you forgot or need.

Glad to have you here in the forum with us. You're gonna like it here.

I don't do anything differently. When I do stop I will usually check my toad that everything is okay and nothing has shifted.

Happy Trails!!!

Don't forget to enjoy the trip itself. I myself pull a tanker around the eastern US. But when my wife I travel in the Motorhome we take it slow and easy. Welcome to Arkansas. Always try to set up camp while still daylight if you can.

On our first long trip I showed up at the RV park after dark.

My reserved site was blocked by some guy who had parked his truck in it. Got assigned to another site and didn't see the tree branch sticking out in the dark.

I still have a nice scratch 14 years later that reminds me to NEVER show up after dark.

I start looking for gas stations when I get below a half tank.

400 miles is a two day ride for us. Sure can be done in a day. But tiring and you land late in the day to setup. About 250 day 1, then about 150 the second day is how I would plan. IMHO YMMV
