Gettysburg
We went to Gettysburg last Friday to participate in a Civil War living history at Culp's Hill and Spangler's Spring. The weather was absolutely perfect and our campground, Artillery Ridge, was as nice as could be expected. The staff was friendly, grounds were well kept and it was very quiet at night. Here is a photo of me and "General Lee", who visited our encampment at Spangler's Springs. I'm the old Reb in the middle. Also a pic of the Virginia monument.

We visited Gettysburg last Thur/Fri after going to the Hershey RV Show on Wed. Sorry we missed the 'Civil War living history'. There was hardly anyone at Culp's Hill when we were there on Thur.
One thing I have always wondered about.... Who decides who is going to be General Lee or other Generals at the re-enactments? Can't have more Generals than Privates....

The gentleman who portrays General Lee we met at Gettysburg has been reenacting for 40 years. He has been acting as General Lee for a few years. Usually, as in the regular army, as one reenacts over time you move up in rank. Some choose to portray a famous general or other figure. I've also seen Lincoln reenactors who choose that role.

edj, Who's playing the role of Sickles? I think if I were going to be a reinactor I'll like to be a member of the 20th Maine.

I'm not sure if you could find anyone willing to portray Sickles. What a scoundrel. The 20th Maine would be a good choice if you wanted to wear the blue.
