Gitche Gumee Park in MI

When I looked at the reviews for this park only one was new and it gave good reviews. The older reviews were not favorable to the park. DW does not want to stay there because of the older bad reviews. I have heard that some park owners will place good reviews.

My questions is: Have any of you stayed at that park in the past few months? And, if so what are your thoughts?

Havenít stayed there but we might when we pass through in the next 3 or 4 weeks. Everyone has different expectations of what a campground should be. Breaking down all the complaints they all come down to primarily 4 items. Bathrooms, road/site conditions, price and poor WIFI coverage . When I was tenting or pulling a pop-up, clean bathrooms and plentiful hot water were a priority. Now I have a motorhome with my own facilities so I donít care about the bathrooms. I have a small motorhome so small un-level sites are not a big deal nor are the dirt roads. As for WIFI, The campgrounds with useable WIFI in my experience have been far and few between. Price IMO is out of line compared to nearby campgrounds. The high price does mean the campground is likely the last to fill up.

yep

stayed there a few nights back in 2018. as stated, its all in your expectations. we had a ok site , not much grass or anything but all the hook ups worked. i do recall the amenities didnt look like much but we were not interested in them anyway. wasnt excessivly trashy or anything, just not a 5 star deal.

If your wife is against it before even seeing it; I wouldn't go there. She'll have problems once you get there.

There are plenty of other parks in the area with much better reviews such as Marquette Tourist Park and Rippling River. I think you'd both be happier.

We've stayed in the Marquette Tourist Park before and had no issues. Marquette has good bike trails here, and it's very easy to navigate. Some of the sites might be a little tight.

OP reminded me of a song lyric...

"The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee"
