Going to the UP of Michigan in September and October

We are looking to go up to UP in Sept and the first couple of weeks of Oct. We sold our American Eagle MH and ordered an Oliver TT. It will be ready to pickup end of August and we will spend a week in Atlanta then head north after Labor day. I have not been to the UP since I was in High school there 69-71. My question is do you need reservations that time of year and what can I expect for weather. Mostly all I remember is a lot of snow in the winter and camping at Tahquamenon Falls in the summer. Oh yeah, and horse flies...BIG horse flies

The great thing about Sept in the UP is no bugs (frost killed them by then). Mid Sept is leaf peeping season and the color tour should be in full bloom, but it's so remote that you won't get that many crowds. By Oct 1, most CG's will start shutting down, but you should still be able to get water and sewer dumps and boondock camp. Watch the weather in Oct, cause it will snow and bring warm clothes.
Check out Mackinaw Bridge events for Sept, Labor Day bridge walk, next weekend is antique tractor bridge crossing parade, following weekend is lighted semi truck night parade. Algoma Central RR has a 1 day trip into back country Canada, need reservations for color tour, most Indian Casino's in UP have CG's onsite. Becarefull driving at dusk/early night in the UP, deer will be in rut and on the move. BTDT twice with my last truck up there!!

x3. It usually snows a little bit where I live in Michigan about 30 miles north of Ohio before Halloween. You can pretty much count on sub freezing temps in the UP that time of year. That said, it will just get that cold at night.

If you're a fisherman bring your heavy rods and get some pike, they put on the feed bag that time of year to fatten up for the winter. Also Lake of the Clouds is pretty. Have fun but stay warm.

If you drive up the west coast of Michigan, you'll have a pretty good color tour on your way up. Pick up M119 in Petoskey, (tunnel of trees) for a very picturesque trip through Harbor Springs and Cross Village. After the Mackinac Bridge, you can't go wrong no matter which way you go. The previous posters are right; it can get chilly, especially at night. (But that just makes the coffee in the morning that much better!)

Have a good trip!

We are leaving Virginia 9/1 to do the Superior circle trip. We will be home by 9/29. We did get reservations for the first half of the trip across the UP but once we cross into Canada around the 15th we haven't gotten any. We are hoping by the second half of September things will be quieting down and we won't need them. Hope we are not wrong about that.

Going across the UP we have reservations at St Igmace, Marquette, Porcupine MTS, and Jay Cooke state park. We are hoping to stay in Sleeping Giant, Neys Park and Agawa Bay before heading home.

Should we be trying to get reservations in Canada?
