Graceland RV Park
We are heading home from Texas and planning a stop at Graceland along the way. However, I just heard that the surrounding area may not be very safe. Does anyone have any experience at the Graceland RV Park? Is it safe to be there overnight?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - Thanks.

We stayed there in Sept. 2010. The area is fine. Not the creme-de-la-creme of Memphis but it is right next door to the place where you get tickets to tour Graceland and catch the shuttles to go, literally, across the street to see the King's house and grounds.
We enjoyed our 3 day stay there and were never nervous about anything. It is absolutely the best location to park while touring the King's Estate. Just don't go on long walks up and down the highway and you will be fine.

The wife and I were down there summer and we were advised by my brother who lives in Memphis that Graceland would not be a good spot to camp. We were told it is not the best part of Memphis after dark. We stayed at a place called the AgriCenter which is a reserch facility on the edge of town with full hookups and good hihway access.

We have stayed there and never heard or saw anything bad or unsafe, as some say, just a basic rv park and so convenient to graceland which is right across the street. At the time we were there they also had free shuttle service to beale street and sun records and other. Call the memphis police and ask how safe they think it is and if they make many calls out there.

Another option might be to stay at one of the casinos at Tunica Miss.
Drive your toad to graceland , Park your toad and take shuttle to beale st and downtown

Or skip the whole thing altogether. Nothing impresive whatsoever. Typical Gotcha coming and going. So comercially over rated but keeps the locsl populace out of the unemployement lines........

graceland
my husband and i really enjoyed the tour of graceland, we happen to be of the age where it was really nice to hear someone with a beautiful voice and words to a song that you could actually understand, his home by today's standards was modest, but really nice to see how the KING lived in his hey day, the costumes, cars the downtown memphis visit was really pleasant trip for us. what celebrity of todays status actually moved his parents into his home. we did not find the cost out of line with other tourist attractions.

Graceland Parking
I work in Memphis and have been there for over 23 years. I frequently RV thu Memphis and I wouldn't park at the Graceland CG. I will recommend some other close places...
1. Jellystone Camground in Horn Lake, MS. Real nice in the suburbs where you don't have to fear walking at night. Has all amenities. About 10 mins to Graceland. Shopping and restaurants nearby. I'll be there in 2 weeks.
2. Shelby Farms Fairgrounds in Germantown (East side of Memphis off I240). Full hookups. Not very landscaped (gravel sites) but in a great area. 30 min in traffic to Graceland
3. Casinos in Tunica. Full hookups with nice CG. Great if you like gambling otherwise not much to do except go to pool. ( I don't gamble but I use the CG). Watch out for Mosquitos at dusk. 25 min to Graceland.

We stayed there with a Winnebago tour and never felt threatened in any way. As conveniently located to Graceland as you could want, on a major thoroughfare and not too far off the interstates.
Really enjoyed the Graceland tour.

Hi Rkc02,
I do not know about the Graceland CG. If you are looking for something a bit different go to Tom Sawyer's RV Park and check out this CG. Right on the Mississippi river. I do mean right on the river. Nice and quiet. A very short drive from all the Interstate highways.

We went to a Rally in Memphis TN a few years ago. We stayed at a Hotel not too far from Beal St where all the action is. That appeared to be a safe area. There was a good Police presence. However, in taking a ride around the city, all we saw were slums and semi-slum areas. It looked to us to be a city in rapid decline. A poor city to start with apparently. We never went back.......

We stayed in Southaven, Mississippi.
Camping: Southaven, DeSoto County, North Mississippi/Memphis, South Tennessee
It was a nice drive of 15 minutes or so to Graceland. Nice park with grass and new cement parking areas. At the same time we had friends that stayed at the Graceland RV park and they said it was fine. We don't tend to wander much at night, but we really liked the park in Southaven and quick access to 1-55.

Hi,
We've been to graceland CG and didn't have a bit of a problem with Crime in fact i wasn't even thinking about it. We have been to the Agricenter which is safe also.
The only place i would not stay in Memphis is a wal mart.
I also think that Beale Street and a trolley ride is a must see and maybe not at night.
As far as the campground down by the Mississippi, I wouldn't stay there as that floods from time to time.
Enjoy Memphis!
