Want to go to north rim from northern California. Hopefully this May. Any recommendations on camping areas rv C parks to stay at? I have a 32 ft class A with a tow car.

We stayed at the Kaibab Camper Village. Very nice but a does take a little to get the the NR HQ.

Why not stay in the park itself? Water fill. Dump Station. Beautiful sites.

Just outside the gate in DeMotte national forest campground right on the highway.... Beautiful sites.

1/4 mile south of DeMotte on the right side is an excellent flat gravel road. Drive about 1/4 mile and you'll see many sites previously used by RVers. . . Beautiful sites.

We've used all three with our 40' MH & Jeep.

Jacob Lake and Kanab have RV parks... not as beautiful!

i guess you already know that the north rim closes for winter and doesn't open until May 15th?

North Rim Campground is in the National Park and right on the edge of the canyon. Not really a canyon view from the sites due to trees, but a short walk to the trails and the North Rim Lodge. Good luck getting reservations though as this campground was popular even before the pandemic. Best bet used to be to show up at last minute as it was common for them to have no shows, but not sure how that is working in the COVID era. We were last there in 2018.

I made reservations at Demotte campground. Somehow i screwed up and the only two nights available turned into one! So icheck in on the 24th of May at 2:00,and have to leave at 11:00 the next morning. Sounds like its going to be an adventure or i cancel everything and dont go.

Well bummer. Once you're in DeMotte there may be a cancellation available. Keep checking in the meantime and also the national park. There may be a cancellation. If not, go to the boondocking spot next door to DeMotte.

Madddawg, one night is hardly worth it. I would boondock or stay just outside and use your toad. Not that long or unpleasant of a drive.

Once you arrive my guess is that many options will become available - Boondocking in that area is really pretty easy - most likely you will just extend you stay and love the area - for Me the Breakfast Buffet is one of the Must Do's - Love it - Keep in mind with the Elevation there will still, if you are lucky be a chance for snow! Driving my son to Cali one year for a summer internship we had the best snow on the 6th of June hard to beat 3" snow on all those rocks - Amazing - you will Love it.

North Rim National Park campground. Site 16 is right on the canyon. Beautiful vistas and sunrise and sunsets. Walking trail the the lodge and the viewing areas. Must be under 40’. Spent three nights there. You can run your generator 2 hrs in the morning and evening. Don’t need AC. Very peaceful. Nice restroom/shower facilities too.

Lots of great boondocking in the Kaibab National Forest, not far from the North Rim. If you can live without hookups, this might be the way to go!

Can you turn around easy? I'm at32 ft with a tow car so backing up is an issue unlesss I disconnect. We haven't been any where since the Covid rush. Have no clue how crowded the park will be.

So what did you do about that snow on your slide toppers?

It was June - by noon it was Warm, melted, a non issue,

With real snow just brush it off and it melts as the sun comes out - issue is letting it refreeze and having to move.

You only get the Snow when you are really LUCKY!

If you're planning on using the tow car and you'll need to disconnect anyway just pull off along the highway (wide paved shoulder) and disconnect before driving in to the boondocking spots. I'd never count on being able to turn the whole setup around. If you need to leave the car parked until you find a boondocking space it's not a long walk from the spaces to the highway to get your car - if you use the boondocking area that I mentioned above which is close to DeMotte campground. There are many more boondocking areas but they'd be a little farther walk to get the car. Are you traveling alone?
