Great Sand Dunes National Park --- recommendations ?
Any recommendations for a big rig friendly RV park near Great Sand Dunes NP ? FHU preferred. I'm thinking about stopping there in late August for 3 nights.
Also... suggested things to do while there

We could see the dunes from the KOA in town - best option in the area - we stayed in one of the new 100Ft sites in the back - sites 42 through 49

There is a CG nearby. Not big rig accommodating IIRC.
There is another some distance away, might be a SP, might be dry camping. I don't remember, but the views of the sand dunes are spectacular from there.

You can see the sand dunes from 40 miles away. I've been there twice. Both times the vistors center was closed because of COVID. The main attraction seems to playing in the stream at the base of the dunes. It is Colorado's beach. I went in a Jeep and left the back way over Mendano Pass (4wd road). The sand dunes are the most prominent feature of the San Luis Valley.

I didn't see anything that would generate 3 days activity. I would be inclined to stay in Salida, CO. Four Season RV park is a nice park on the Arkansas River.
The dunes. The black spots are people playing on the dunes.

Last year we stayed at Cool Sunshine RV Park. It is relativity a new park, clean restrooms, nicely laid-out in design.

I think you're thinking of the former San Luis Lake State Park. No longer a state park because I think the lake dried up. We have stayed there a few times, it was electric only, if I remember correctly.
I think it's still there, but now a Wildlife Refuge.
