Grove City / Mercer (Pennsylvania) KOA owner, Marty Henion was very rude to his customer.
Upon arrival Friday night with receipt in hand, I checked in at the office. I was presented with a cash register receipt and told to sign. I read the receipt and noted that it did not state that I had a zero balance. I showed my printed receipt from my internet payment explaining that I was pre-paid and paid in full, and that I should not have to sign another slip. The owner, Marty Henion, spoke very curtly telling me "The signature is for liability, you'll sign the slip, or you'll leave." Well I did sign the slip with hesitation, and made a note of the owner's name and the manner in which he spoke to me. The rest of the weekend, Marty saw me 3 more times and never appologized for his very offensive tone.
Instead of paying $42.00 per night for this KOA with a bad attitude, I recommend RV Village in Mercer. I called RV Village today and confirmed their rate of $22.00 per night full hook up, and no add'l cost for children.

George, isn't this where your group is camping this weekend?
Seems to me that would be some leverage but then again, some of these KOA owners aren't rocket scientists either...

Bob, Yes Bill/Michelle, Joe/Shelly, Dave/Lori, Mike/Deb, and another family Roseann/Jim.
We all asked to be together in one group. But some folks from a Yahoo group wanted to come along and checkout the Pond Piggies. They too asked to be assigned a site near our group. Well 5 of us were at the front of the campground, and then Rosann/Jim were at the extreme rear of the campground. Rosann and Jim were extremely disappointed with the assignment of their site.

Hey George:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Instead of paying $42.00 per night for this KOA with a bad attitude, I recommend RV Village in Mercer. So, where's the "free night of camping"? It cost you $42.00 at the KOA for the weekend and you would have paid $44.00 ($22.00/night) had you camped at the RV Village. I suppose the $2.00 you saved at the KOA was your discount for the bad attitude. Hmmm... I'm surprised that the KOA didn't charge you extra for that additional touch of service.
Well, enough kidding. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. You certainly had excellent weather. If I had joined younz, it most likely would have rained all weekend and the truck would have got stuck in the mud.

George, the $100,000 ? was the KOA worth the $42 a night you would have paid in the regular season ?? Not counting the extra friendly greetings you received from the owner. Are all KOA's this much. I remember camping with my parents back in the 70's & 80's at some KOA's. Knowing my parents, they were cheap so they must have been moderately priced at best.

After we got home last night, I re-looked at our receipt. Mine showed just 1 night of charges & a minus amount for same for the credit card deposit I made back in Feb. It's kinda like they charged us for the 2nd day but credited it back from the deposit that covered the one of the nights we were there. A weird way to show it, I must agree. Although there was no zero balance listed, the charge & the credit indicated such. Under that was a disclaimer stating "I agree that management assumes no responsibility ...etc." You know, the don't hold us liable for getting hurt kind of thing. I think that's what all of us were required to put our signature on.
That asside, I feel the owner could have been more courteous and less abrupt to you, George, in his explaination of the signature requirement. He was in the wrong there. JMO.

I would assume that if you were a "no show" you would have been charged for two nights. You were credited the FREE night and that was the minus charge on your card.
I don't think you would have gotten the free night if you never showed for the weekend.

Good point Tom....That's why they've earned the "Keep On Adding" moniker...
My last experience in a KOA was in Kingsport.TN on the way to last year's iRV2 National...
Not only could I not get level, I had to drag tree limbs down the side and overhead to get out of the campground....
NO MORE KOA's for me.....
Remember....there's a reason they're giving that day away....

George, it's unfortunate that you had an unpleasent experience and thanks for the heads up on the RV Village. We are going to give them a try in August and Sept when we are in the area.
With that said, we have stayed at the Mercer KOA several times during the last 3 years. We have been treated well by the manager and his workers during our stays. For the most part I've found Marty to be a sofe spoken person and relatively easy-going guy. However, anyone can have bad days. His prices have apparently gotten out of hand ($42- yikes!) so we will be trying out the other campground this year.

When I registered, I guess I was lucky. I got a cute girl who asked me to sign the slip. How could I say no to her? She explained it was to make it official that we were staying there. It probably was for several reasons. One was so they could get reimbursed from KOA Corp. for that free night. Also to keep from charging me as a no show as has been mentioned. The other was the typical thing about acknowledging the non-responsibility claus which is nothing new at campgrounds.
When I first started the post asking to see who would like to go there, I stated that we may not be able to all be together in the same area. And around 4/18 there was posts on what sites people were on. So we knew then where everyone would be.
If you guys remember, we tried RV Village last year and was stuck in the mud hole in the middle of the seasonals and watched the golf carts drive around us all weekend.
Would never go there again!!
All in all, I thought the Mercer KOA was fine for our purposes and I had a good time. I should have checked out the pool. Which by the way, is almost unheard of to be opened this early in the year and to be so nice and warm in water temperature as those that tried it mentioned.

A special spot in my heart for those mud holes in Mercer County.
Where the heck were we when my solenoids went out?
Thought that was Mercer County near the Outlets.
That's where I first learned of that campground cooking contraption....
